My friends and I have yet to get multiplayer working. 1 of us is currently in IT with like 16 years of experience and I use to do IT (and now a CS major) with 8 years of experience. The thing just keeps crashing.
Soo... is there a fix for the "server lost connection" error that keeps booting us out to menu or can we get a refund?

I've found ways to get it to work, but only on a real LAN. The drop of the multiplayer is because of the crappy american servers that they force the game to run through. So long as those servers remain crappy, multiplayer on coop, closed, or open servers will remain impossible. It's unfortunate, and hopefully they'll fix it eventually... But currently unless there's a work around shunt developed, it's unlikely to happen.
Gameranger is my highest hope. They've done a great job of allowing other games to play across unworkable networks. But it's not supported as of yet. Hamachi doesn't work properly, and neither does Leaf. Good luck, and let me know if you get something to work, I bought the game specifically for the multiplayer. I can play it with my girlfriend here at home between my two computers, but unfortunately not my other friends.
Good luck!

Me and 2 of my friends bought it exclusively for multiplayer so all 3 of us are pretty upset. Steam should have a policy about ensuring games they sell (especially ones requiring external support somehow) are properly supported. I mean, this feels like I bought an MMO that I can't log into because servers don't exist. What is the point?

If Steam only sold games they knew were properly supported they'd only sell games they themselves have created. Steam is like any other retail store in that sometimes the product you buy doesn't work. When this happens you can return it and get a refund but it's not always a fun or fast process.

One should rather blame the distributors for not keeping up with the patching of their Steam games. I bought the digital Sacred 2 and Ice&Blood directly from the DeepSilver store a couple of months ago, and the huge download was still the original versions unpatched. Now, if the very distributors of the game don't care for the customers to get a playable product, why should Steam worry at all? And yet I understand that the Steam version of Sacred is at least patched to some extent (not sure because even when the game came out I bought the box).

Pro tip: Use Hamachi and/or Tuungle to play Sacred multiplayer..... :D
