Heh, I know about Hawken indeed, indie mech game suddenly appearing out of nowhere. Looking forward to hear more details about the game etc. and also to see their official forums at last working. Hope it will have smth more than just good graphics.

yeah, hopefully it works out. Considering how good it looks vs how much time they've spent on it, I have high hopes.

I am bit worried about speed, mechs we have seen so far are rather slightly too responsive for my taste(and for a game with cockpit view) + all this jet jumping . Maybe I wouldn't mind all that that much if game would have tpp and not cockpit view, not sure.

It seems mechs will be somehow customizable.

frankly, the only reason I'm considering it is because of the speed.

to each their own though ;)

you play MWLL?

I rike.

Looks a helluva better thought out than FM:E.

Meh. They don't have arms.

I prefer mechas that have arms and can pick different weapons, instead having them inserted.

That way you can take the weapons from fallen enemies.
That also gives greater mobility, allowing thinks like climbing.

Mounted guns... meh, for the shoulders.

They give me a weird walking Egg vibe, Arms ftw!

i've never seen arms on a mech used for climbing... lol generally arms are on mechs to provide additional space for mounting weapons.

+, you have jetpacks. Why climb when you can fly ;)

No no I don't, barely observing. I'm afraid my pc won't run it well, yet :). A friend of mine is trying to convince me that MW:LL was optymalized greatly and I should not worry about anything but I am still not in the mood for MW:LL anyway.

To save fuel.
To make less noise.
For safety in certain weather conditions.
For stealth in certain conditions.
As a mere sport or hobby with recreative mechas.

1. There's a reason why propeller planes are rarely used in combat anymore. Overall Efficiency > Fuel Efficiency.

2. Right, because a 50-foot tall walking mech is going to tip toe about the battle field.

3. In certain weather conditions where you can't pilot a 100~ ton mech outside, you stay inside a solid building indefinitely, or run for your life.

4. See 2.

5. y u troll me

1. More so because of speed

2. I think a mech arm grabbing hold of the side of a building would make a ton of noise

3. Hell, I already got synthetic vision capability in the single engine airplanes I fly... I think a mech is capable of more than that ;)

4. see 2

5. i agree with all said points for #5

It's not just about noise. It's about perspective and distance.

A mecha using a jetpack will have to fly away from any buildings, in the middle of the air. And the noise the jetpack makes will easily travel in the air.

While you can hear a jet plane from miles away, you won't hear some metal noises from a junkyard from such distances. Noises in the middle of other things like trees or buildings get muffled.

And if you look out of the window from a tall building, you'll easily see a jetpack, but a mecha climbimg will be much harder to see from the same window, just because of the angle, you'll have to move your head outside the window and look down.

And in weather conditions that won't allow safe flying, a mecha can easily grab a rocky wall and never let it go. Huge planes can be affected by turbulences, but if the terrain is safe and you get a good hold, nothing will move you. And when there's a mission you must do, you can't just wait and leave the mecha in the garage. Baddies don't wait for you.

seen the movies. rather impressive, but non-BT mech games always just lack ... vibe. a reason to be there. BT universe has such sickeningly rich backstory, even if u only scratch the surface (and believe me, I've never picked up a book of it, etc.), and great game mechanics thanks to depth of PnP material there is to draw from. . .

a reason that every (stock and standard variant) mech is the way it is, and a strategy that works with it.

unless they are going to mimic every single weapon/mechanic of the BT universe, it will never replace mechwarrior, MWLL, etc.

and yes, I also got the feeling from this game: these mechs sure are agile; why not just play some standard FPS? quake even?

bottom line: the environments are way more impressive than the mechs or mech combat. (yet the envs. actually look like a huge PITA to drive mechs around. hence all the jumping) I basically get the same vibe off of it that I do FME, which is "mechwar lite". hope it will be fun, but no replacement for BT.
