View Full Version : Could VAC Work With Server Admins?

Instead of just being this mystery anti-cheat that bans players over a period of weeks - months. Could it work with admins for instance:
- Instantly ban for Old (known detected) cheats
The cheat creators already know that it is detected, what's the use of delaying the bans for it?
- Give server admins a screenshot option
To basically take a snapshot of them in-game. I'm assuming this wouldn't be too hard to implimentate as you have already added a screenshot option for players.
This doesn't have to relate to a VAC ban at all, but an option for Admins to report the screenshot + player to VAC would be nice.
- Give admins the option to block ANY player that has previous (bans on record)
We don't care what game they cheated on, they cheated in that, chances are they will hack on their other games. - Another deterrent for cheaters.
These are just some ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a lot more. Please think about it Valve :)

Give admins the option to block ANY player that has previous (bans on record)Already given with other tools. Check the steam community's player profile or via vacbanned.com -> vacbanned in other games? ban, done.
VAC is automatic and will stay automatic.

What "other tools"? Yes I know I can check their profile for (bans on record) but I'm talking about something automatic server side to stop them from even joining the server in the first place.
Reason is, I've checked out a lot of cheaters (actual 100% cheaters) profiles, 85% of them already have (bans on record) for another game (engine).

You can get an addon for your server that checks every player if they're VAC banned in any game, if they are you have the option to automatically ban them.
But not many like this as having a "VAC bans on record" doesn't mention what game and what happened etc..
I know some people that got that on their profile after using an old mod on HL1, which was detected.
But the addon does exist and I've seen multiply servers use it.

Literally everything you suggested can be done with current tools (as for the first option, it's just a server ban not a VAC ban).

- Instantly ban for Old (known detected) cheats
This kinda defeats the entire purpose of VAC delayed banning. It would be nice if VAC used at least shorter delays ( < week) for very old cheats through (if it doesn't already).
- Give server admins a screenshot option
I can't see this being that hard for a cheat to bypass. When it detects that a screenshot is requested it could just disable the cheats for half a second. Not to mention possible privacy implications.
- Give admins the option to block ANY player that has previous (bans on record)
I believe that there are server plugins (for Source games at least) that do this already.

I'm lucky - our main DOD:S server is "policed" nearly 24/7 - if a player is acting in an unfair or unsocial manner he's gone.
Strangely enough, we are the #1 DOD:S server in ANZ (been that way for quite a few years now - I think we are in the top 40 worldwide).
Older b*ggers like us aren't prone to cheating - seems to be a vice of the younger generations.
cheers

cheers I agree, older players are a lot less likely to cheat. The average age in my clan is 35.
