Shadow over Innsmouth I believe is part of the Cthulhu mythos, plus if the company wouldn't of ran out of business then there would have been two sequels as planned. So maybe over the course of the sequels we would of found out the games connection to Cthulhu.

This game uses elements from several lovecroft stories so why would it be called shadow over innsmouth?

Shadow over Innsmouth is the short-story written in the 30s.

Call of Cthulhu dark corners of the earth is a pen and paper roleplaying game based on the Cthulhu mythos, that is also where this game is based on.
It takes one of the stories that the RP have.
Which also takes place in the town of Innsmouth.

More people recognize the title "Call of Cthulhu" than "Shadow over Innsmouth."

Call is considered to be his very best work.

If you haven't read it, "From Beyond" is another extremely good read. Short, but awesome.

I share his opinion.
Plus, gotta love From Beyond.

well, the chapters that take place within innsmouth follow the storyline of the book 'shadows over innsmouth' quite closely. It deviates after that though

I don't know, I rather like At the Mountains of Madness myself. Call of Cthulhu was really good too, though.
