why are the 5870s higher?

it was just a better card. They screwed up the nomenclature for the 6xxx's.

6970 == 5870
6870 == just a bit under 5870

If I were you, I'd buy a 6950, which can be softmodded to what is basically a 6970. The mod unlocks the shaders, you're just not going to be able to reach the same clock on every card.

The 6XXXs are great cards I have a 6870 and I love it but I like the 5970 a lot better.

Not a bad deal, and technically the 6870 should perform better than your 5850. Although real world experience may be negligible.

If you're not having any performance issues in any of your games however, the wiser thing to do would be to keep that money for an upgrade further down the road, when you could spend the same amount of money and get a greater performance hike.

Lol ddr5 i didnt know it existed.

Its a graphics cards memory. It uses a different type than your normal RAM on your mobo. I think its correct name is "GDDR5" but whatever. :)

You probably wouldn't notice much, if any, difference between crossfire or single at that resolution. Especially if you're already running the game with eye candy on.

Yeah, that extra 40 fps is just in my head :rolleyes:

this benchmark shows 30, it depends on the CPU as well. I would spend less and get more and go crossfire (just stick at 10.5 for now till they fix the 100% crossfire bug). I hear 10.10 also works I guess.

He'd want to X-fire if he wanted 60fps with high levels of AA/AF.

Also, the benchmarks are all mostly from single player, and in my experience MP has lower fps in comparison.
