So I've had my headset for a couple weeks now, it a Logitech ClearChat, and it's been working perfectly up until now, I was playing a game of L4D expecting it to work and it wasn't, I restarted the game, then steam, then the computer, still nothing. When I unplug it and plug it back in to the same jack, it detects it on windows (I have Windows 7 Ultimate, by the way) and on the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and I can hear myself through the speakers on my headset, but when I go to Options and test the Mic...nothing. I've tried changing jacks, drivers are up to date, the mic is set as default, steam is just not detecting the sound :S

Update as I was typing: I quickly went into Control Panel>Sound>Recording and now it's disappeared, When I plug it in Realtek still detects it but it doesn't pop up where the recording devices are on Windows...ugh may have I accidentally clicked something to remove it from list, probably. :/ This just keeps getting worse. If anyone knows how to make it show up again it would be great.

Okay I think I've worked it out guys. I unplugged my webcam (which has a mic on it) before all this happened, and I've always had it plugged in and it turns out windows thinks the mic sounds from my headset is coming from my webcam :s So when I unplugged my webcam, it stops working, when I plug it back in it starts working, at first I thought it was detecting the webcam sounds so I muffled the webcam up in my doona and whispered into my headset and it was still as loud as ever. And also, steam says it's detecting the webcam now although the recording is coming from my headset? Maybe because it is all Logitech? This is so strange, can anyone explain what is happening?

You have two devices that have a mic plugged in? It's probably drivers.

I think it was, but I'm so relieved to say I finally fixed it. I disconnected and disabled every single recording and sound device and then re-booted Windows, and it re-detected Realtek, updated, which I'm guessing was updating the drivers, then I also reinstalled my webcam (luckily I still had the CD) then after that wall all done, plugged my headset back in and voila, it's all done. I don't know if it was the drivers or the webcam was just stuffing everything up. But what I'm angry about is that, if was it WAS updating was the drivers, then why was it telling me the drivers were up to date before. :/ Anyway I'm just glad it's fixed.
