View Full Version : Sonic Debug Mode...How Are You Doing It?

Because these games are emulated, Sonic 1 appears to accept the ol' debug mode code (Up, Down, Left, Right, A+B+C+Start).
As always, the chime means you did the direction pad part right.
Problem is, I haven't figured out how to reset the game so I can retain the chaos emeralds acquired in debug mode. Maybe I'm forgetting something from back in the day.
Sure it's a bit of a cheat...but these fingers ain't as nimble as they were when I was twelve.

I thought Sonic 1 debug was Up, C, Down, C, Left, C, Right, C, (hold A+C) press Start, release?!?

Yes, indeed, to access the mode where you can transform Sonic into the various other sprites and whatnot, you plug the C inbetween the control pad movements.
Without the C you get the level select.
The thing I'm trying to figure out and/or remember is how to get back to the title screen.
On the Genesis, you could repeatedly level select the Bonus Level and accumulate all of the Chaos Emeralds. On the emulator, I haven't been clever enough to figure out how to return to the title screen without losing the Chaos Emerald.

As I recall, when the debug mode is successfully put in, hitting A while paused starts slow motion, hitting B while paused does a frame by frame, and hitting C while paused resets to the title screen.

Linksdeity, you are a god among men...or perhaps elves...depending on how you say your name.
I knew there was a trick I had forgotten.
I just entered the debug mode (with the level select), successfully acquired chaos emeralds, and retained them after restarting the game using your instructions.
I always found those bonus rounds too tricky to beat without practice...
