I've downloaded and installed the 96MB DirectX SDK, along with trying to run the web updater that's been linked to in similar forums, but that just told me that my DirectX is up to date and there is no need to install anything.

I've also tried running the program in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, tried giving it administrator privilleges... nothing seems to work. Currently I'm running Windows Vista 32bit, on a Sony Vaio laptop, with 2GB RAM and a dual core ~2ghz processor. I noticed the integrated graphics program (Intel GMA) appears to use OpenGL, could that be the problem? It would be nice to get to play this game....

Graphics cards should always come with both DirectX and OpenGL drivers, so that may not be the problem, but maybe it's the card itself not supporting the features this game requires that make it fail.

uhm do you have a monitor with max 1280x800 resolution on that laptop?

try to edit config file, for example try 1024x768 instead 1280x800.

this game use direct3d, not opengl... that video card is supported?
