What is that? (Slight spoiler)

During the elevator ride after the final boss, you pass a room with a cube in it. Two floors later, there is a room with a few turrets and... something else that I can't identify. What is it?

My two theories are:

1. A giant Potato.

2. The animal carcass from the Super 8 promo.

What you can see there is:
1: loadsa turrets
2: one large turret
3: that GIGANTIC turret from the "animal king takeover" video that you may have seen in one of the elevator rooms.

Your #1 is right. Its part of the giant potato growth from Chell's potato project as a child.
