Man, keeping that chocochick was actually pretty challenging on my second try (I restarted my progress because my game save wouldn't load after the patch). I tried and tried and tried, then I finally got passed that beginning battle and kept the chocochick alive.

So I proceeded to battle the remaining mushrooms and mushroom mage when... PEW [blackness fills the screen].

Okay, the game crashed, sheisse, I'll just do it again.

Once more saved the chocochick and then saved the game right away.

Made it to the next environment when PEW [blackness fills the screen]

Ah, poop, the game crashed again. I guess I'll call it a night.

Or...

Nah...

I'll just play some more...

Start again, in Station Pass (I forget the name?) and talking to people. Haha, it's a funny game, it was cool when that one guy was... PEW [blackness fills the screen]

DAMMIT!

Okay, I'll just play it again and get to that same spot and save.

Ah... while I'm here I might as well talk to East, the weapons vendor. Okay that's it... wait... how do I get out of the bartering screen? [pushes random buttons] What the... where do I click? What do I do... [pushes all manner of F# keys, the screen swivels around] Huh, I guess I can change the camera angle, I'm so stupid I didn't realize that earlier. Okay moving on [bartering screen with East pops up] Ah crap! How do I get out. [presses "backspace"] Oh duh, I don't play PC games enough... oops.

Okay, let's see what this Wizard guy has to say... PEW [blackness fills the screen].

TL;DR - This game is bugging the sheisse minelli right out of me, man... it keeps crashing.

Ich habe zu schlafen. Anyone else have the game crashing on them?

Yup, twice so far on me tonight, first time playing the game. Both times in Wish Station or whatever it's called.

Could you send error crashes to our emailclient?
Maybe you try to update your direct x or graphic card drivers. Only some people get the crashes and we still don't know why. All our test machines are stable playing through the game.

Poet, I do the "send error report" thing that pops up each time it crashes, is that what you're referring to? If so, there should be about five reports from me. I never know where those things are going, but I'm hoping those ones go straight to the Grotesque team.

As I said, I don't play PC games much so it may be my system just isn't ready for the game. I've been playing Portal (the first one) and Amnesia on pretty high settings without any incident, and my settings on Grotesque are all on the MINIMUM, so I can't understand why I can't play it for very long.

I'll look into updating some drivers and let you know how it goes, if I don't post tonight I'll try to do it over the weekend.

Update: All drivers are up to date.

Game has run a lot better these past two nights, though both play sessions only ended because of a crash (I didn't keep going back in and trying). Both recent crashes occurred while initiating dialog with the healer lady at Station Wish.

Thanks for keeping us posted! I got through dialog with the healer lady and others at station wish, finishing some of the first quests, and had no incident of crashing. I'll post here if I get any more crashes there post-next patch.

It's been a really addicting game so far!

Here's an update and some good news for me and the developers.

This week I updated my PSU and video card (got a XFX Radeon HD 5770). I was pretty excited to see if doing this would make this game run better for me, and ♥♥♥♥, I was blown away to be quite honest with you.

Previously I had been using my on board graphics chip (I think Geforce 9100 or something like that). I was able to play the game on MINIMUM settings, like everything down: graphics, resolution, everything, and I had spotty crashes but mostly everything seemed okay.

So today, with a new graphics card (for me :)) in my PC I fired the game up and decided to bump up the video options just to see if my new card could cut the mustard (or schneid die käse for you German speakers). I turned the settings to:
Quality renderer, vegetation, depth of field, textures at medium, and resolution at 1920x1080.

On my first session at this setting, everything was perfect. Very smooth gameplay, the lighting (day&night) effects were in place and I could finally see what people were enjoying but also complaining about. The only problem was that certain characters (Rukel and the girl with the harp) weren't going through animations. They just moved as players on a chess board and their hits would make contact but you wouldn't see them animate. The animations worked fine on my second play session at this setting, so I think it was a one-off or just a bad start up.

Anyway, I really enjoyed playing with these more beefy settings and have a newfound appreciation for the game. I'm still hoping the developers keep working hard at fixing it up for those players that are having issues because I really think those players would enjoy this as much as I am right now. So keep at it devs, it's a great game that more people should be able to play. After this play session I realize the steal I got in getting this game for $5 and you have earned my playthrough of this game and most likely a preorder of your next.

One other thing, I tried to take a screenshot in-game so I could show what I was seeing (actually not seeing) when the night and day cycle went to night... it was near pitch black for a good several minutes. In trying to do so, however, I realized that none of my screenshots taken in the game, this play session and sessions previously, are ever saved. Maybe this isn't a developer issue and it's more on the Steam side, but I just find it odd that my screenshots for Amnesia, Portal, Prey, and The Tiny Bang Story show up in my screenshots folder but nothing for Grotesque Tactics.

lack of animations and/or flickering people/objects seem pretty common with certain settings. personally I haven't been able to get the game to run properly at all since the big update. I would definitely attribute a lot of the bugs to the Gothic engine. like you said, they rush it with a lot of bugs. just look at all the community bugfix patches for the gothic games.

so, my question to GT:EH devs is; why update the engine to G4 when it was working fine before? It only seemed to cause more problems.
