Step 1:
Go into DarkSpore's Steam folder using Windows Explorer (or otherwise), located at:
(Your Steam Location)\Steam\steamapps\common\darkspore\
Step 2:
Go to the "DarksporeBin" folder.
Step 3:
Run "Darkspore.exe"
- Doing this will continue downloading your game straight from the EA/Maxis servers, with the newest patch.
- This is happening because there is a conflict between what data is on the Steam servers and what is on the EA/Maxis servers. The game knows it's supposed to be 6GB, but Steam only has the first 3GB.

My download started over at 0% after getting up to 8%.
I tried your suggestion above, but all I get is a black box when running darkspore.exe
Any suggestions?

You have a completely different issue.
Perhaps you should wipe your hard-drive of all DarkSpore files (even the DarkSpore directory), and try downloading from Steam once again?

Can I ask how I find where steam is located on my pc? It might sound really stupid but i'm not techy and don't understand how to

If you installed by default it should be in "c:\program files\valve\steam" (Or "Program Files (x64)" )
I believe its something like that, of course with changes depending on you language settings

danny, have you tried restarting steam? Some people have had success with that, even needing to restart 3 or 4 times.

Ok so downloading from the EA site the installer doesn't work either, now i really am completly out of ideas. Steam needs to fix this soon because now i've been trying to get this to work for roughly 6 hours when it should just be a case of click the 'play' button in the library and play what you paid for

canadademon, thanks for this post, after adding my licence key manually my game now can be played. +rep
(steam still out of sync though, and says the download is suspended)
My steam download is stuck at 99% btw lol
Obviously has effected several people, so hopefully steam will fix this sometime soon. Cheers again XD

You are quite welcome! I'm glad that it worked out for you (and hopefully others)
I was getting a bit tired of all the negative comments towards Steam (due to this issue with DarkSpore), so I thought I'd try to help out :)
And yes, my Steam is also stuck right now on 99%, but it doesn't stop the game from playing (even if I have to start the .exe manually). I'm confident they'll fix it, when they figure it out :P

Um might sound like a stupid question but, did you get a network message saying the connection was lost or something at the login screen? I'm not sure if the problems are the same thats all, it could be i'm missing part of what you've suggested out. I'm glad you've got this up as well else i'd be lost without a clue

NOW WORKING 100% with STEAM
As my game was working, from a link I made to the folder, and as steam was still not launching Darkspore, this morning I decided to rename my steam folder \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\darkspore to olddarkspore. (with steam not running)
Reloaded steam (save games are online so no need to worry about them) - Steam made new almost empty folder (just a config file)
I then went back to the and moved the game files back inside the newly created folder (overwriting all)
Then relaunched steam - the game now launches from steam again.
Hope this helps someone else

The only time I have ever had suspended messages is when a) playing another game through steam tends to suspend it. Or the in ability to connect to content servers. Tho this (for me) has always been fixable by verifying cache, pausing the update and clicking play (force it to download before start).
There is another trick you can try also if those fail. I believe only twice I have had to use this, but sometimes you just get stuck on a full / content server that doesn't host the games. The way I have found fixes this is in your steam root folder, there is a clientregistry.blob file. Deleting that and loading steam fixed being stuck on bad content servers (for me at least).
