It is on sale and it looks nice but i didn't like the first.
I'm a fan of Operation Flashpoint.
How is it?

It has become much better than the first, mainly thanks to the very frequent patches.

Ok thanks,+rep.
Buy it. I didn't like ARMA 1 too much, I missed: Operation Flashpoint: Cold war Crisis.
Arma 2 is just that - Operation Flashpoint 2.

I don't understand how people could like OFP but not ArmA. They are essentially the same game.
OFP has a campaign that everyone loves. Arma 2's premade singleplayer doesn't live up to that, but few people play the missions that ship with the game anyways. MP, editor and usermade scenarios are where it's at.

Well, considering the multiplayer was poorly supported in OFP, I think there were alot of people who expected a well-made singleplayer, including myself in Arma 2. Arma 2's singleplayer doesn't just not live up to it, it was a colossal failure. There was no pacing in the story and mission structure, the voice acting took a nose dive for the worst, the story was forgettable, the missions were poorly made and tested, and to rely on the terribad friendly ai squad and expect to keep them alive was a ridiculous gameplay decision to make.
I came into Arma 2 expecting the same quality singleplayer as OFP which I guess was too high of an expectation. It was a little better in Operation Arrowhead and I think they realized the mistakes. But there was still a lot of room for improvement.
Imo, Arma 2 isn't even worth a purchase now because most of the online community has moved onto Operation Arrowhead. Hopefully Arma 3 will have what I'm looking for but I'm not getting my hopes up.

You play Arma 2 and operation arrowhead together these days. But if you're just getting one you'll be better off with oa. But I thought the campaign was much better in arma2 than oa from a singleplayer out-of-box perspective. But oa is smoother.

Some people like me prefer the eastern european setting of arma 2 over the afganiraq setting of Operation arrowhead

Indeed. Looks like the forests around my cabin. Makes me feel at home :)

For whatever reason, I couldn't get into the game before Operation Arrowhead was released. Whether it was timing or that the training modules in OA are simply better (the latter is mho) but once I knew how to play the game all the different versions have become more enjoyable.
Although initially I spen most of my time yomping through the deserts, now I seem to spend as much time sneaking through forests of eastern Europe:cool:
