Titan Boots final door shut

Can anyone help?
I've been all through the temple killed all the lizards and lowered the big bridge. I cross the bridge, use the final winch, open the door with the lever and return to the 'map room' with all the doors, but the East gate is not open so I can't go through and get the Titan Boots.

I've read a couple of walkthroughs which say the east gate should open when you use the final winch, any suggestions? Have I missed somthing or is this a bug?

I believe I vaguely remember a situation early in the game where you can use a spell on a lever/winch in another room. This is quite possibly from a completely different situation or even a different game, but have you considered/tried it?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it isnt that.

After close inspection of the map, I realised there is a second winch behind another door in the map room, after a few presses of the switch I was in and the gate to the boots is now open.
