The original Spore and Spore Galaxies were available on OSX on launch day if I recall correctly.

How come Darkspore decided to sidestep the platform?

Please don't turn this into a platform bashing thread.

Thanks

It is because Maxis doesn't port the game to the Mac, they have to pay another company to do that work for them, and for this game they must have thought that it wasn't worth it.

Well that's a pretty good sign that the developers / EA don't even have faith in their own product.

I find EA rather inconsistent with mac versions. Dragon Age is ported. Mass effect is not. We get the sims too but not this.

At least Ubisoft is doing all their new games cross platform.

I doubt this is the case. Just like the fellow above said, there are some big hitters out there that haven't been ported to OSX. Maybe it's something to do with Direct X and it's ability to allow gamers to utilize their hardware better on PCs. I'd be interested to hear l3reak's reasoning.

OSX is a very small market which is why few games are ported over. It has increased in the last few years however. I would assume the bottom line is how much money can be made. That is how business normally works.
