View Full Version : New Console Titles: Should We Opt for Xbox Versions?

There are some new titles coming down the road that I had planned to buy for PS3. With the recent debacle over PSN and the theft of all of our personal information, I'm strongly considering picking up these games on the Xbox 360 instead. Do you think other people are doing the same thing?
L.A. Noir is coming soon. I prefer my PS3, and usually purchase games for it, but I also have a 360. Should I just buy the 360 version? Can anyone offer any downsides to playing it on the 360 vs. the PS3? I know you won't be able to give L.A. Noir specifics, since it isn't out, but what about past games?

Microsoft is much more strict with game updates, DLC, etc.
I don't have a PS3, so I can't comment on that. But I hate the PS3 controller. It's way to small for my hands.

I can't stand the L2 and R2 buttons on the ps3 controller. The XBOX triggers are way better.

I'm not against one or the other. I think they both have about the same thing to offer. I don't know much about the security breach on the PSN, but it doesn't sound good.
Fortunately, I didn't have any super personal info set up on my PSN account.
If you're alright paying for the Xbox Live Cost, I'd say stick with xbox for now unit sony gets their ♥♥♥♥ settled. The only thing you'll lose is some graphics on noire.

I don't see a difference of graphics. But, I'd pick 360 only because of the security breach.
I also can't wait until L.A. Noire

They should make both edges of the buttons be shaped like a U.

MS also charges to play online but for some reason has more players.
If I had to even look at buying a console now, I'd get a PS3 instead of my 360. I guess if I were you, keep getting games for your PS3. It'll be good to have a lot of games if you travel plus you can watch Blu-Ray movies on it.

I don't understand whats so "good" about Blu-Ray. I don't see the difference. You pay an extra $10 so you get HD? I think thats very, very, stupid.

Blu-ray is amazing. I'm mostly impressed with the sound quality.....BUT........(that's a big but) they are killing the medium because of the price. I refuse to buy blurays unless I find them on sale for 10 bucks.

I understand the quality of Blu-ray. But, I'm not going to shell out $30 for a DVD I can find with less better quality... I just don't get it.

I have no problem with paying for Xbox Live. It's not ♥♥♥♥ty and not too expensive (I'm a highschool student and I can even afford it) and I have a good time playing with my friends, since most of them aren't into PC gaming, but I'm starting to convert a few.

I think all of this paranoia that's going on about the PSN is nonsense. It always works like that, and not only for online services: something big and bad happens, everybody runs for cover, a few months go by and everybody lowers their defenses.
Anyway, from a point of view of someone who doesn't own either, and doesn't care a single bit, I'd say go with the PS3 version, since it has superior hardware and if the guys at R* aren't idiots they actually used the full potential.

There actually are trigger extensions (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gioteck-REAL-Triggers-Real-PS3/dp/B001AW156U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304091396&sr=8-1) for the PS3 controller. I don't know how/if they work, I had just stumbled across them some time ago.

Heard about these too. I think my friend had those before he sold his PS3

MS also charges to play online but for some reason has more players.True, while Silver is free, Gold cost you $60/yr. If you don't play MP though, LIVE costs you nothing as you can get by with a silver account. Live is much better and more dependable imo than PSN and I've had both consoles more than long enough to compare. I personally got no problem with user fees. Let the people that use a service pay for the service and as a added benefit they get a few perks.;)

Nothing more miserable than buying a game you can't play. My son traded in his PS3 Portal 2 yesterday for the 360 version which he can actually play co-op in now.

Yah it's been fun having a common hobby with my son as he grew up. we always had something to do or talk about. My teen years were a disaster between my dad and me as we had nothing in common and he didn't know how to try. Given his upbringing, he was a awesome father just not so great of a daddy.
PS: Don't know if gaming makes me cool. I just thought I didn't have a life.

Bluray only looks different on extremely high resolution, LARGE TVs. One of my buddies just bought a 5,000 dollar TV, can't remember the specs, but damn. That movie was crystal gold diamonds

Why the pessimism? You had a 50% pass rate!
My dad and I are pretty close, we both like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, etc. We go camping often. We go skiing every year, and the fact that my parents are divorced and my mother seems to not care too much about me, make my father and I's relationship even closer. But like I said, he doesn't care about video games. He watched me play a match of TF2, got utterly confused, and left the room.

Divorce is bad on the kids. At least you are old enough to understand whats going on. Mine weren't when i went though mine. Just remember it's never about the kids it's always about the parents and their inability to get along for whatever reasons.
I did successfully turn my mom into a casual puzzle game junkie but will never pay anyting other than match3 , marble popper, search and find games. Still the lappy us kids got her is always in her lap and being played unless she has something that needs doing and shes 78 years old. In fact she clocks more hours than I do anymore/day/week.
PS: No she has no use for FB, twitter or Farmville. On a side note my mom was so clueless about games when she started that it took me almost 3 months to teach her how to play Bejeweled.:o:o:o

They got divorced when I was two, so I have no memory of them ever being together.
However, I dislike how my mother still forces my dad to pay monthly child support, even though she's remarried and makes more money than him.

I am an online focused gamer so I do prefer Xbox Live. PSN manages to have most of the same features XBL does but XBL does it in a much better way. I mean, you can go into your friends list, start parties, invite people and do that all very seamlessly.
On PSN, doing the same thing is more complicated and frustrating. However, if people are buying their first consoles, I'd still recommend a PS3.
The Blu-ray and the exclusive games make it worth more than just a nicer online interface.

That movie was crystal gold diamondsI wouldn't go that far. You just need a High Definition TV that supports 1080i or 1080p resolutions. Definitely the picture quality is super clear, colors are outstanding and sound is awesome. You always look down on DVDs once you see Blu-ray.
I remember seeing at Walmart on their Blu-ray stand, showing off movies (like Spiderman)with one side of it being the Blu-ray version and one-side being the standard definition. It's quite an eye-opener.

It's quite an eye-opener.While this is true, seen the comparison done at BestBuy and there can be quite a difference between standard and BR, it's simply not worth the extra money for BR for many of us. The only thing HD can impress me on is nature programs. That for me is where it can shine. When it comes to movies or TV, standard dvd's are fine with me.

I don't look down on DVDs.
I don't care if it's in HD or not when talking about TV and movies. SD is fine for me. Yes I've seen Blu-Ray's on some nice TV's, but a regular DVD is fine for me. I don't think spending money on it is worth it. I don't own a Blu-Ray player myself, so that's something I would have to buy first. Seeing as how I don't think it's worth it, it will be quite a while.

While this is true, seen the comparison done at BestBuy and there can be quite a difference between standard and BR, it's simply not worth the extra money for BR for many of us.Well I am not sure where you live but here in Ontario, Canada Blu-rays are typically only a few dollars more than a DVD copy.
I looked on Bestbuy.ca for recent movies and one random find ("I am Number Four") was $35 for BR and $30 for DVD and $41 for BR/DVD/Digital Copy. So really it's not that bad plus they usually have deals were Blu-rays are as low as $10/each.
That's why a PS3 for me is the best - you get a built-in Blu-ray player with a game console. As for the thread topic, I would just wait till the storm blows over. It's really not that bad plus Sony is looking at ways to reward us for being patient.

I'll probably end up getting the PS3 version because it's my personal favorite between the two systems, despite the security breach. L.A. Noir is strictly single player, so it won't matter that the network is down (I don't care about achievements).
I also ordered some of those PS3 trigger extensions off Amazon. That should help a ton! My biggest complaint about the controller was those darn trigger buttons.
