View Full Version : Ok - I have some questions

Hello everyone!

So I have spend some time reading the boards etc and I was initially really put off by the whole 'constant internet connection required to play' thing etc, but I really want to like this game. I am a bit dissappointed by the Aussie pricing too, but I may be able to overcome these misgivings...

Missed the Beta (damn you internet monthly download cap!) by a few days.

Then I went to youtube and watched some videos (for about an hour) and it all looked good.

so - my questions are really pretty simple...

1) I am mainly interested in single player - how long is the campaign? Is it replayable? are you able to just keep playing and levelling up (is there a level cap?) and getting more loot?

2) In regards to multiplayer - is it easy to find groups online? Is the community forgiving when it comes to noobs like me or are you expected to be pro from the start?

I appreciate any help or advice you guys can give me with regards to this game. $70 is a lot of money to pay and I dont want to pay it unless I am sure I will get my value for money (as opposed to a $15 indie game which I could happily take a gamble on:cool:)

I really liked torchlight, titanquest and the diablo games and want something to hold me over until D3!

Cheers,
Jaynay

The basic campaign is 24 levels long, but like Diablo there are 3 difficulties, and the game basically continues right on into them. So, the first level of the "hard" difficulty is actually level 25. That adds up to 72 levels total. After that, however, you can play in Endless Mode, which is kind of like an endless dungeon, like you might see in other action RPGs, that gets harder the deeper you go, but also gives better and better loot.

There are two sets of levels in this game - your character level, and the levels of your Heroes. Your character level does cap out at 100, but your Heroes can go up to 200, and even once you get them up to 200, getting a perfectly matched up set of gear can still take longer.

2) In regards to multiplayer - is it easy to find groups online? Is the community forgiving when it comes to noobs like me or are you expected to be pro from the start?
Multiplayer is super easy & simple in Darkspore. You just click the matchmaker button for the level you want and it automatically throws you into a group, and you can get going. :) The first 5 or 10 levels are pretty easy, too, so you'll have plenty of time to get into the swing of things. And I've found we have a pretty friendly community, so even when it gets harder I don't think you'll have a problem.

You can't really drag a team down, either. It's the kind of game
that just by having another player there who's throwing in some extra attacks, he can't help but be a good group member.

I hope I've answered some of your questions!

cool - thanks for the quick reply.

I have noticed your reponses in several threads on the boards l3reak and I have to say your replies and professionalism have helped allay some of the concerns of have about the ancillary aspects of the game mentioned in my first post (price and online connection specifically).

It is good to know the devs are active in the community, taking the consumers concerns seriously, and providing active ongoing support!

I have to say I am leaning towards taking the plunge at this point. maybe tonight even....

I really must give a shout out to the youtube video I watched too (I think I found out about it from another thread on these boards even) - they are a review of the beta by someone called Cynical Brit.

here is the link to the first one if you are interested:

Helped convince me to take a chance on this one :)

Yeah, that's a great video. I've shown that to people before, too, since I've been a fan of TotalBiscuit for a while. :)

TB is great with his videos. Fairly much I go watch his videos before deciding if I will buy a game or not (if no demo avail). Doesn't tend to sugar coat like some 'review' sites.

Your first post commented on Aussie price. So looking at that I am assuming you are Australian. If thats the case I would love to add you to my freinds list and help you through some levels.

Awesome - Thanks peoples! When I am all downloaded and setup I will post again.

I am assuming I will have to setup some sort of account with EA/Maxis, and will hopefully be able to secure my usual user name (Jaynay27), so once this is confirmed I will let your guys know.

And yes - I am an Aussie.

Really appreciate the offers of help - thanks again.

If you have played any of the recent BF series it's like that. (and if you have those, can just use the same account) tho it doesn't seem to let you make different persona's in the game, just uses the branch name for the account. but feel free to add Breet83 ingame if looking for more AU =]
