was the best team based FPS in the history of video games
Which is why I bought this even though it could be TF2: Scene Edition or a crappy console port
I have blind faith that Splash Damage will deliver a game as good as WolfET now that they aren't trying to make a battlefield clone like QW

Yes I hope so! I miss W:ET and RTCW so much.
Some good signs are the revive system that resembles to the W:ET one,the classes, the low server cap, the crosshair without the need of ironsight, the fact that you have health and that the maps have objectives like in W:ET.
Some bad signs are the Quake 4 engine the iron sights the TF2 resemblance.

What is the problem with iron sights? Simply don't like them?
They slow-up gameplay pretty much. And block your screen, etc.

They have never slowed up gameplay for me. You can still see see well enough with it up and it's not like hip firing in brink seems all that much less accurate.

The iron sights won't be a problem. We had the same option in Quake Wars and it was always optional.

I have nothing against iron-sights in general. It is a perfect feature for tactical realistic shooters like Battlefield for example. However, they tend to slow down fighting action because they force you to walk and personally I hate it for games like W:ET and RTCW which were about speed.
Please dont refer to Quake Wars as a game that is "brother" of W:ET and RTCW. The only similarity with W:ET is the "Enemy Territory" part which also is for marketting reasons as well. You may liked Quake wars, but it is your personal taste, because objectively its gameplay disappointed the vast majority of W:ET and RTCW players.

It depends on the situation. I can see myself using it when I need to take controlled shots with a rifle at long range, using them when holding a location down, most of the time they are their for taking precise shots, for someone like me whos likely to be running from one battle to the next, I'll barely use them.

haha great.. every shooter which has perks, small perks and stuff is called a cod-copy game. Every game with outfit custumization (hats) is called Team Fortress 2... man don't be childish unless you are one.

Hmm? Maybe your post fits better in this "Brink, plz dont become tf2" thread. Noone talked about Hats or perks :D.

I don't get all this "crappy console port" stuff, they had 3 separate teams working on three separate games, the only thing that got shared were some entities, how can you make a "crappy console port" with an engine that was designed for pc any way?
oh and a beautiful thing about the q4 engine is a cvar called ui_showgun 0, which I really can't see them removing since the game was based on competition tastes and I can't name any of the "best of the best" that actually have the gun rendered

Competition play has always ALWAYS required showgun set to 1. Most "professional" (term used loosely) gamers play with it set to 1 so when they do go to competition they are no handicapped by a slight lack of screen real-estate.

What's the difference between Quake Wars and W:ET? Didn't SD make both?
I only every played Enemy Territory because, well, it was free. I liked it, but because it wasn't all that popular at the time, I found more reliable games in standard RtcW.

Download the QW:ET demo on steam and see for yourself :). It's got the mission system, it's more BF-esque. A few differences. It uses the same promotion voices though :P

What's the difference between Quake Wars and W:ET? Didn't SD make both?
W:ET is basically RTCW with more stuff. So the original idea of gameplay was by Raven studios. SD build on this idea. Actually some RTCW fans acuse SD of adding stuff in W:ET like nade launcher and mines trying to make it more tactical etc. However SD made a good job keeping the feeling of RTCW and making it better.
On the other hand, SD is responsible for ET:QW along with Id Software. The difference in gameplay is huge! It feels slow,so much more tactical, you cannot strafe shoot the way you did in W:ET, there are vehicles forcing you to play more like battlefield and snipers making you crave for shelter. It is a lot more chaotic than W:ET, generally the only smell of W:ET are the classes and its name. These are my memories as a beta tester years ago, so forgive me if things have changed since then.
So please, do not have "blind faith" to SD as the op states because you are never sure for anybody. (except Valve, maybe :p)

You are right. However, keep in mind that they will try to compromise the gameplay so it appeals to console players too. They will have to put the content to PC. For example make it low paced so people can enjoy it too with a gamepad. Lets take for instance Portal 2. This game is released to PC and 2 consoles. So, because of the gamepad the reflexes are naturally lower, that is why they removed some of the maps that require fast lookarround.
Playing W:ET or RTCW with a controller is aggravating your performance by a lot!

None of the top leagues for Splash Damage's games have ever required it, I played tgl and cal for two seasons of Quake Wars and never rendered the gun, neither did anyone else cuz it was allowed
edit: and if I remember correctly I know at least twl for W: ET didn't require it (well back when I actually competed at that game so quite a few years back)

I think you may be mistaken, I do believe that's why they implemented this SMART thing (I didn't hear this from a dev or Badman so take it with a grain, I'll hop on their forums later and ask though) so they didn't have to gimp the game on PC (besides pushing any gameplay aside for console would be very unlike Splash Damage)

Hey, I hope so :)
Searching the official brink forum I stumbled a thread about the movement speed and there they quoted official words that the game is slower than W:ET in general. So, I think we should see for ourselves if we enjoy the gameplay in like 10 days. It saddens me there won't be any demo. Also the available videos are few for me to decide.

Quake Wars was quite a bit slower than W:ET as well, which always kinda perplexed me since it's Quake's (not exactly but basically) version of Enemy Territory and Quake has always been an extremely fast moving game
ha I just read that post a few posts back, if you haven't played QW since beta yeah there were a lot of changes that pushed to a more arcadey side rather than tactical, it ended up being a really fun game, Activision (read: Satan incarnate) just never gave it the chance it deserved due to CoD4, thank god id and SD have aligned themselves with Zenimax/Bethesda now :D
