View Full Version : BC2 Ping issues

So it seems that regardless of what low ping server I pick (when I join, the server browser has the ping listed around 50 give or take) when I join my ping is anywhere from 150-300.
I know it's not on my end because there isn't a single multiplayer game I own where I don't get a decent ping whether it's CS:S, TF2, AC:Brotherhood MP, BF2, CoD:BlOps, MW2, Crysis 2 so on and so forth.
Hell even Rift, where I have to use offshore servers give a better ping than Aussie servers on BC2.
So what's the deal?
Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this?
What, if anything, have I missed?

Ingame ping isnt actually ping.
It is normal ping:
+ server processing time
+ your pc processing time.
Basically it is how far behind the server you are.
I go from browser ping of about 20 to just under 100 ingame. With a slower pc this number will be higher.
What really annoys me is dice cared so little they couldn't be bothered to make a small change ingame and change the word "ping" on the scoreboard.

And that affects in game performance how?
The game actually runs as if it is at that ping. I get pwnt by every guy and his dog because they tend to appear out of nowhere and blink from place to place.
Yet as I mentioned, this does not affect me in any other game. I can play all my aforementioned games with all graphical settings on full...hell I can even run Metro 2033 without issue on full.
Settings or not, there is more to it and their poor coding on the ping column in the server browser.

You are in australia and the best you can get is 50 to a server?
There are a couple of servers that i get rubberbanding on (people warping around) but i ping 20-30 to most AU servers and all except those couple work fine. I assuem you have tried several servers?
With an ingame "ping" of over 200 you could start having issues. My ingame ping is almost always around the 100 mark.
What are your pc specs?

go play on a cs server with 100 ping and you'll know what actual 100 ping feels like... it'll be way more laggy than 100 'latency' on bc2, as fore-mentioned above, it includes the processing time. good players get on with bc2, so it's more than likely something to do with the particular server or your gameplay
