Has anyone heard or seen any info about what features the Steam version of The Witcher 2 will have?
My main interest is steam cloud support, achievements, or automatic updates.
We know that the Witcher 2 will launch a client to connect for DLC ect. but will the steam version do that automatically?

Steam has achievements and cloud support. Patches will also be on Steam.
Not sure if DLC will be available in the Steam store or only go through the game client like the rest of the versions.

This hasnt been confirmed yet. Achievements and Cloud are confirmed, but not auto-updates.

Sorry I hadn't heard of that, where was it confirmed at? That almost makes me want to buy it on Steam over GOG.

Achievements and Cloud are confirmed, but not auto-updates.I have almost 200 games on my account and I have yet to see any game on Steam that doesn't update through Steam. Especially one that has Steam specific features, which would require a slightly different version of files than the retail game.

Read the FAQ about the DRM.

Registered users will also receive automatic notifications of updates via the game launcher. In
addition, this will be the only way to update the product – patches will not be available as separate
files, making it impossible to update illegal copies of the game in this manner.
So its not sure.

I think when you launch the game in steam, it'll bring up the game launcher, kind of like Darkspore or an MMO like Rift, from there, you go into the game, therefore you can register through that launcher and receive DLC. I'm assuming that's the way it's going to happen.

Thanks for the replies, hopefully it picks up the steam version of the witcher 1 saves pretty easy.

I'm a fan of Steam Achievements and that would sway my buying choice over to Steam over Gog.com.

Im thinking the same thing, my main concern is that GOG will release at midnight or something, and steam will do the waiting till 10 AM the day of release BS...

So I tried to clear things up and ask them if Steam was updated through Steam or through the launcher, and their answer was.
"@JayShadow: Y"
...which really didn't clear anything up at all, and I found that to be pretty hilarious.

Never, ever use the word "or" to pose a question to anyone involved with computers/math. They simply love to answer yes.
That joke was old when Plato was young and they still keep at it...
