Hello.

For the past couple days I have been unable to use my computer.

It started when I got a weird message saying something about a Hard Drive failure or something. And then a Windows recovery thing popped up and started a scan that claimed I had problems with all these different things.

It looked like a kind of spyware scam I've seen before, so I just ignored it and restarted my computer. I went into safe mode and ran my anti-virus scan twice (once on Quick and once on Full) and it came up empty. But I noticed that instead of there being icons on my task bar, there were just blank page icons. And going into my start menu, all my application folders were empty.

Now when I start my computer the Dell loading screen pops up and runs through. The computer asks if I want to Start Windows Normally or Launch the repair options.

If I try to start Windows normally, the computer goes to the Windows loading screen and eventually just restarts the computer.

If I try to repair the computer, it gives me a BSoD about a "paging fault in a nonpaged area".

Safe Mode will start to load its file, then either restart or give me the BSoD.
I can't even run the Windows repair from the CD. I still get the same BSoD.
I've tried taking out my RAM sticks, and it still happened with each one.

I am out of ideas for what I can do for this.
The only thing I can think of is that something DID happen to my harddrive (either it went bad, or it was a virus that caused it) but I don't know how to check that, and I don't want to go out and buy a new hard drive until I'm sure that's the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
RAM: 4 sticks (1GB each)
Other information I'll have to figure out, so if you need to know anything, let me know and I'll post it ASAP.

We would need to know the full error code to properly help. Basically, what this is saying is that there was a bit of info (the paging fault) that was supposed to be loaded from ram,(the non paged area) but it wasnt there.

Certain Deep root information that the OS loads is put in a "non-paged" area, so it doesnt get swapped back and forth from ram. The full error code should point us to what bit of info it was trying to recover, and we can start from there

Blue screens can happen from bad cpu, bad ram, bad mobo and a whole lot more. Knowing the error code is good but also consider whag about graphic card drivers, they are normally the biggest reason besides a bad overclock.

If it were me I would be trying Chkdsk. Then if that became a pain I would just format my drive/repartition and reinstall windows.
Thats me and I don't have a lot of knowledge on the subject.

If you cannot affectively format your drive without a problem I would guess your hardrive is toast or at least damaged.

Obviously if you did what I said you will lose ALL your data on the drive so thats up to you.
Also if you don't have a windows install disk this wouldn't work either.

I would do this just because I can right or wrong. I am ignorant and don't know how to fix it in system :) . I would just go with what I know and start over lol.No guarantees it would acomplish anything.

EDIT- my bad I see you tried windows repair .

You can't boot from a disk??? If you can and get into windows safe mode O.K.,my guess is its the Hardrive that the problem.

I would run a memory test and a hard drive test.

Here is the full error page.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, try doing a system restore. It sounds like a faulty driver could be at fault. You may want to try safe mode with command prompt to see if it is locking up when a certain driver is loaded. For the missing icons, I would try creating a new user account and see if the new account works correctly.

At this point, we're going to need the dmp file to try and pinpoint the problem, i think. They're at C:\Windows\Minidump zip everything up and post it to a file sharing place and link it here and I'll see if i can sift through it for ya

The problem with that is that I can't GET to any of my files. :\

Windows won't load up in any form at all. Even Safe Mode.

A couple people have told me an option is to try and boot up a LInux OS from a flash drive, and try and get to my files that way. So i'll have to look into that.
