Australia and New Zealand have different rating systems. New Zealand has an R18 and R16 rating for games which Australia does not because they are fascists. So we should get the unedited game not Australia's edited version. Please steam and CDProject take this into consideration.
Thank You

I would like to know this also.
I pre-ordered before it was taken down from the New Zealand/Australia store. I am assuming that it is going to be the same situation as Left 4 Dead 2 where we still got the unedited version, but having the price change along with Australia worries me.

Thanks.

Also waiting for clarification about this. Are they always this slow?

I'd like to know this as well. Might buy it elsewhere if all we get is the censored version in Steam.

I noticed it's rated R16 in NZ. Is this because you also get the censored version in retail? If anything it's Namco Bandai you have to complain to. They are the ones dictating which version Steam and even GOG are allowed to sell. If you have the censored version in retail, which would totally suck considering there's an R18 classification in NZ, then Namco Bandai don't want you to be able to get the uncensored version on Steam or GOG as it might take away local sales.

I'm sorry to say that for the Kiwi's you are stuck with the censored Aussie version.

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/is_the_new_zealand_version_of_the_witcher_2_been_a ffected

Believe me, I know there is a difference between the kiwis and the Aussies (you only get to ask my kiwi wife if she's from Aussie once before she attacks ;) )but because the southern Hemispherian distributers are based in Aussie, you get lumbered with the censored version. From what I read, it was Namco Bandei that decided to censor not CDPR so rage against them not the developer.

I asked them about the NZ version, they said this:

Hello Michele, You do not have a low violence version of the game pre-ordered on your account. If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.
WTF? Did that answer my question? I really can't tell.

no since it was not violence that was edited so they didn't answer your question (perhaps they were thinking of the witcher 1 and the americans originally getting a censored version of both the blood and sex cards)

Steam support sucks. Why can't they just say "Yes, you guys will get the censored version" or a "no, you wont"

Gee is that so freaking hard for you Steam??

Ok, I will email them now and let you guys know what they say

Ok, here's what I responded with:

I would be happy if you would actually assist me. You have yet to actually answer any of my questions. I asked for clarification, not vague answers that clarify nothing.

I did not ask about a low violence anything. I asked originally if there was a pre-load on this game.

Then I asked if I would be getting the censored Australian version.

If you cannot answer my questions via this medium, please enclose a phone number the next time.

1) Is there a pre-load option for this game?

2) Am I getting the water-down Australian version or the version that the rest of the world is getting?

And their response:

Hello Michele,

All pre-loads will be announced via Steam when and if they are offered.

As I previously stated it does not appear that you are getting a low violence "watered down" version of the game.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

Why do they keep mentioning violence?

Hi folks,

Good news today from GoG.com.

GOG Updates Privacy Policy, Will No Longer Use Geo-IP to Determine Your Region

We’ve come to the conclusion that there are a number of issues with using a customer’s IP address to determine what offer they are being presented with from GOG.com. A good number of users can find themselves negatively impacted by a policy of using geo IP to set their region.

For example, customers may be traveling when they want to purchase or download a game from GOG.com. In this case, automatic IP address capture might change the price or the content of the game they’re ordering (such as the default language of the installer). Further, geo IP data collection is not always right. IP addresses are not a perfect or unique identifier of location, and can report the incorrect region of users, particularly ones who are not using standard Internet connections. Finally, we’re always very sensitive of our users’ privacy. Effective privacy protections for our users means that any data that we don’t need to collect, we shouldn’t. We only need to know the country that you’re making this purchase from, so although we originally planned to use geo-IP to determine user’s location, we’ve decided to trust our users and let them inform us as to the correct region for their purchase.

Any of you who are having problems with your country’s location (and the offer you're presented with) can update this by going to ”My Account” and clicking on “Account & Settings."

The change is now live on GOG.com and will effect all current purchases and preorders.

EDIT: We'll update the privacy policy on our website to reflect this tomorrow, because we're having caching problems with it today. rest assured, the new changes are in effect even if the page doesn't show it.

I just corrected a mistake (travelling > traveling), but you can select another country in your accountsettings to get it uncut. Good news for digital sale at least ;-).

Yeah I don't hold out much hope. If I don't get an answer from Steam within the next couple of days I will just cancel the pre-order and import a retail copy.

Oh, and just because they're pissing me off...I had to reply with this:

Thank you again for your reply.

I'm not sure why you keep mentioning violence, as the Australian version was censored for content.

I have been asking the same question repeatedly, as have other New Zealanders, and no one seems to want to answer our rather specific question. Since you state that I am not getting a censored version, I will take you at your word. However, if I do get the censored version, I am going to expect a refund, so that I may get another copy elsewhere.

Seems pretty obvious to me that you guys will not be getting anything censored. The devs or publishers would have mentioned something as they did for Aussies. Secondly, the only preload available so far is if you pre-ordered it off Good Old Games which you can find out by Googling.

We have no hope...

Hello,

Unfortunately New Zealand version is the same as the one from Australia:(

I would suggest buying directly from GOG.com - they offer The Witcher 2 with no DRM and no censorship.

Should you have further questions, please contact me.

The GOG version is censored for Australia and New Zealand... So it seems like that guy is working off of old information.

That being said, GOG no longer uses geo-ip to determine your location, so if you simply select say - America or Sweden when asked for you location instead of Australia or New Zealand you will get the uncensored version.

Basically, publishers treat Australia and New Zealand as a block so unfortunately our Kiwi friends have to suffer for our backwards censorship laws.

I've asked them to cancel my pre-order. Their support is terrible. Puts me off using Steam for future games actually. Nothing worse than being ignored.

Honestly, I love Steam, but GOG is the place to buy this game if you are an Australian or from New Zealand. Take your money there. They let you set your country of origin and price the game based on your selection as well as offer the Fair Pricing Deal (GoG gift certificate for price difference due to unfair pricing for Australians).

I really dunno why the OP was mentioning about the Violence, considering the information provided the last time I heard was that us Aussies and New Zealand's residents are getting the watered down version and not because of the violence but because of a sex scene which it was all crap about breasts. So I still believe Steam has to give NZ the same as AUS due to the ratings.

It still makes me upset considering there have been many games i have brought from retail stores that were rated R 18+ and were a hell of a lot more sexual then i sex scene. I hate the sex scenes myself, but just mentioning past games allowed to be sold that showed a heck of a lot more than breasts.

I mean Mass Effect or ME 2 game showed butts so why didn't that game get watered down, talk about a screw up. This is all just bull.

It is bull, but it is done. I've already downloaded from GOG, got my free cheapie game downloaded and anxiously awaiting the 17th. :)

Oh and got my refund from Steam too. Life is good.
