I own the full game so do my friends,(yes all on Steam accounts) that I'm trying to buy the Vietnam DLC for, everytime I try to buy it my, "PURCHASE AS GIFT" button is greyed out, I could buy the other DLC but not Vietnam DLC, is this going to be fixed or forgotten, Steam get your act together and get it sorted, are you trying to sell it or not?

If not then say so and get rid of the ad.

If you want to purchase as a gift

1. Go to http://store.steampowered.com in a browser (not on steam).

2. Add vietnam to your cart.

3. On the page, where the 'purchase as a gift' is greyed out, instead now go to this URL
https://store.steampowered.com/checkout/?purchasetype=gift

You're welcome.:p

A somewhat related question: I want to buy this DLC for a friend of mine who has the game on DVD, will this work or not? All in all this is only a code to put in your game, so it shouldn't be a problem if the game is not on Steam, right?

No, it will not work. Your friend needs a BC2 Steam Copy in order for him to play Steam's Vietnam.

What you can do.. is buy Vietnam from D2D, which is on sale for $7.49 and use this 15% off code to make it cheaper. It'll be 6.37 USD in total.

Thank you, I tried but the store won't let me buy it because the code is restricted by Country.

They blocked gifting of the DLC to stop people from buying the game if they dont have a copy of BC2 on steam. It's actually a sound idea, but lets face it no matter which way Steam had gone people would have whined. Whinge if they buy a game they can't play and whinge cause they can't buy the game for their mate.

If you want to gift that particular DLC you could just send them the money through pay pal

Actually it does. Valve can't know whether the person your gifting to has the BC2 game or not, so rather than risking it they just lay down a blanket ban

We just said that the Vietnam code sold on Steam only works on Steam copies of the game, hence if you want to gift a code to your Steam friends Steam knows whether or not your friends own the game.

If they let us gift the game my question (of gifting to someone who own the DVD copy) would have been answered by the fact that that my particular friend wouldn't be allowed to be gifted to.

Thanks NineToes, I had seen it earlier and did try, but no go.

@ Ryuubei, sorry your wrong, you can check and see if your friends have the game or DLC on Steam or not, I'm just getting a grayed out "purchase has a gift" Button, if it would work, the next step would be to show me my Friends list and there it would tell me who and who doesn't have it already, ....if it would work, i say while giving dirty looks at my Steam browser.

And Yes you must also own a Steam version of the game as well must your freinds also own it, if you wish to gift it to them, provide they don't already have it, which it would only tell you if you/I had gotten pass the "Purchase has a Gift" button.

...which I can't ...still giving dirty looks at my Steam browser.

Had the same problem. NineToes suggestion of changing the link solved the problem. Thanks (of course this should also not be happening in the first place).
