The Witcher has it's flaws. The combat system is stale, the controls need getting used to and the voice acting is not the best (especially of side-characters). And don't let me get started about dice poker.

However, aside from the flaws and if you are a true RPG fan, this game is a blast. There are a lot of little things to do besides the main story, the skill system is good (you can always feel a difference after you've spend some points to improve your stamina or your fast-sword skills) and the alchemy system is a neat little addition to improve your characters power temporarly. The atmosphere, especially in dungeons is great. It's dark and even equiped with a torch you can barely see past 4-5 meters, not to mention the background noises that always makes you think "oh ♥♥♥♥, something's comming".
The choices you make seem to have a real impact on the storyline and it makes you feel like it's important what you choose.

Even though chapter 1 is not really convicing, as soon as you hit chapter 2 you'll experience the full joy this game has to offer. Oh and I've played around 25 hours now and I'm not even 50% through the game.

$5 is actually a joke, this game is worth $30-40

Its just 'alright', and I bought it on Steamsale for $5 and played it all the way through.

Its not really that bad, its just... not that good either. If you have time to kill and want to play an RPG for cheap, there you go.

Uninteresting combat, so-so storyline, fine game system (meaning stats / skills / rules). Except for Poker Dice, that's not a game of skill in any reasonable way, no. Go away. D:

Depends if you like RPGs. I don't like RPGs(more of an action-RPG guy) but i got this game for 6 bucks during a steam sale and it is probably the best deal i've ever gotten on steam because of how good the game is.

I'm wondering if Steam is going to match the GoG price.

I mean, I prefer Steam to GoG, but not at a 300% markup.

"Is it worth it?" isn't really a question that needs to be asked when we're talking about a game on sale for $5 or less. If you can afford a bag of chips from a vending machine, you can afford a game as cheap as that, and if it's even marginally enjoyable, then you've gotten your $5 worth.

Anyhow, I bought the Witcher director's version when it was on sale on Steam. I haven't played much yet (the controls are making me feel stupid :o), but even going on the little bit I've seen, I've no doubt the game is worth the money.

Too much truth here.

Is it worth $5? Definitely. I'd say the Director's Cut Enhanced Edition (along with the boatload of extra goodies it comes with) is worth at least $25 still, so at five bucks it's a steal.

That doesn't mean it's the greatest game ever, but I put 160 hours into it. Assuming you get even half as much play as I did, you'd be paying like... 6 cents an hour. And they're fun hours too!

I just finished the game and am contemplating starting on the additional adventures that came with the Director's Cut. Really a great game, but be prepared for some real rage moments due to:

· Worst inventory system of any game ever in the history of games;
· Quests that don't give enough information, leading to massive amounts of time aimlessly looking for the next progression point;
· A fun but horribly implemented alchemy system;
· Rails, rails, rails- very limited travel options, along with some annoying pathfinding issues;
· Be sure to finish your quests for every chapter or else you'll miss out on some amazing weapons and alchemy recipes. Many areas are inaccessible once you advance to the next part of the story.

The Witcher is a great experience, but it's got some serious flaws. For five bucks, it's a damn good deal though.

on the whole i agree, but Mass Effect had a far inferior inventory system than the witcher. The witcher just doesnt give you much choice (with armor and weapons) all of the other junk was as every RPG is.

Tbh I was playing on normal and I barely used Alchemy apart from making Swallows and cat potions.
I got the Enhanced Edition for about £12 and I thought that was a bargain. For $5 you should definately pick it up and prepare yourself for the sequel. It has it's flaws but if you have patience and stick with the story, you won't regret it.

I would suggest taking a look through the Wiki if your stuck, though try to avoid the spoilers.

The game is one of the best I have ever played, it truly is.
