Below is a list of commonly used in-game devices. Please feel free to submit your prefab (more than one will be accepted, provided some difference is present). As of right now, all prefabs are modern Aperture themed (unless stated otherwise).

If applicable, please make sure all outputs are created, and either linked to a placeholder, or to nothing.

Please feel free to submit prefabs not listed!


Download and place prefabs in the following location:
[Steam Directory]\steamapps\common\portal 2\bin\Prefabs

Didn't include the funnels or discouragement beam launchers, because I think they are both all-inclusive entities. I may be wrong though.

ADDENDUM: It turns out that func_instances in Portal 2 can be used for many of the objects you see in Portal 2.

Change the Thread Name to "Mapping Prefabs" and make a list of all prefabs you can get and let people contribute ;)

There's a list of "instances" in the new portal2SDK folder that came with the BetaSDK.

Many look like what you are looking for, however I havent looked deeper into those files. Are those different?

Instances are USED by many of the things we are looking to make prefabs for. I don't know what they do exactly, but it seems like some sort of engine logic handling system.

Instances are kewl :D

But many prefabs are also instance-capable. This page (http://wiki.p2mods.com/index.php?title=Prefabs) might contain some things that you need.

Have the instances as prefabs. That is, the prefab contains a func_instance. This gives you the accessibility of prefabs and the tidiness of instances.

Imagine this common situation: You made a map and you're about to place 50,000 doors. Each one consists of multiple entities so it'll look really fancy. You now have three options:
1. accept challenge

4. Paste special *flex*

Instances in prefabs can be replaced by instances in instances (in instances).

COSMIC ! U deleted me, again :D
And no, diversity vents are not included. It was probably just a point_push with some particle system anyways.

Personally i don't instances. I tried them once and they messed up pretty badly. I'd rather spend 30seconds more adding my own names and outputs :D

I did ? well i've removed quite a few users lately but .. didnt you use random names alot ? THat's what's getting me confused and then I am often too lazy to go on the profiles and see any similarities....

yeah i had my period. Havnt changed my name for weeks now. I feel sick.

Well, thank you for showing me instances and how they work. But what I hate about them is that I can't see the whole creation unless I can see the instance-point. Makes it difficult to look around it, figure out exactly what I'm seeing.

EDIT: That stopped being a problem a second ago, so... yeah, Instances are cool so far.
