As said in the "Steam Translation Groups (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1244344)" thread:

Petitioning languages:
Many languages have not made it to Steam yet. If you think your language should be added to Steam, feel free to create a group and get a movement in your language's community going, so that Valve knows that there are people that would voluntarily help to translate Steam into your native language. If you're lucky, your language might be added to Steam one day.

and there's already an Ukrainian Steam Community group you can join (if not already done): http://steamcommunity.com/groups/UkrainianTranslation

Dear ADMIN, Ukrainian language was destroing many years by the Communists. Millions of people have been killed due to the fact that they were written in Ukrainian or was Ukrainian patriots! Therefore the Ukrainian language must develop in all spheres of our lives! Ukrainian would be very grateful for the help and support!

They (western ukraine) were brainwashed nationalists and fascists, later in ww2 they were worst than naz. germany. what you want from the communists to do? give them flowers?

Я как Украинец вам это говорю.

Offtop:
I live in western Ukraine, but I can't approve a great deal of historical/political view of my fellowcountrymen, icluding the shallow idea of WW2 (nationalists - good guys , communists - "baddies"). But here we're talking not about history, but language.

To compare with, in Bulgary the population is about 8 mln. people, and naturally not even the half of them are Steam users).
But still they have their own Steam language section.

In Ukraine we have 46 mln., Ukrainian speakers exceed the ENTIRE Bulgary 3-4 times!!!! And we can't legally translate Steam into Ukrainian :o

Gosh, Steam Staff, there are a lot of people willing to make Ukrainian Steam.
I'm one of them (I work both as interpreter and teacher of English, so I have the required qualification for this job).

Please, support our iniative.

You guys all speak fluent Russian anyways, so what's the practical purpose? Other than nationalistic pride.

Russian and Ukrainian are different languages. For example as the Swedish and Finnish differs too.

Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian have a high degree of mutual intelligibility.

But yeah, why not?

A lot of people in Ukraine speak in Russian. Its a pity, but why don't add Ukrainian for others that love this country and love its language? Please, add Ukrainian as official Steam language as soon as possible. A lot of people ready to make translations. Just waiting for possibility to do this.

For example. Russians don't understand ukrainian lang. Many of ukrainian people don't understand russian lang. I'm ukrainian, but i'm using english translation of steam, because i'm poorly understand russian.

I'm sure you are exaggerating. But if you really can't understand russian which is 85% the same as ukrainian, that's very sad of you...
There is also some linguistic references that belarussian and ukranian are dialects of the single language.

But I'll stop here, since many of ukrainians are nationalists and can experience butthurt from what I wrote.

I will be glad to translate part of Steam to native language.
Please add Ukrainian to the list of available for translation languages.
