In Library, right click on the game, go to "view cd-key".

I'm looking for my key as well. There's no "view cd-key" option when I right click on witcher 2 in my games list, and it's not an option on that list to the right either. I'm computer stupid so I don't want to go screwing around with registry or anything, why can't this be like every other steam game and have it show me the key the first time I launch it? I'd really like to register my game :|

I don't have a CD Key yet either but that may be because I'm still in the process of downloading the game.

Is it asking for a cd key? Usually on steam that is only for multiplayer games, which this is not.

Well, I can play the base game without it just fine, but I'd also like the free DLC that came out today as well. In order to get this DLC I need to register my copy with CD Projekt. In order to do that, I need the CD key (which I can't find).

*edit* The official Witcher 2 website also has no forums, which makes finding the solution to my (and the OP's) problem even more of a chore :|

Look here for that CD key, it is under the 'Serial' entry in your registry.

If you don't know how to see your registry, google it cause I don't want to be responsible for you f-ing up your PC :)

Nope, it doesn't add my cd key if I open the registration form this way or by clicking the "Register Game" button in the Witcher 2 launcher.

Try here : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CD Projekt Red\The Witcher 2

You can play the game cause there's no DRM (aside from Steam itself). You just need the key to register for the DLC which is fine, I'd just like to find the freakin' key! :)

Have you launched the game once before trying to register?

masterchief8810

these 2 way works for me

1° start the game once and quit

2° Use the "register.exe" in installation folder (default = c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2).
Create account or login with existant account
Your cd key is automatically add

OR

1° start the game once and quit

2° Launch Regedit and go

here : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CD Projekt Red\The Witcher 2
or
here : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CD Projekt Red\The Witcher 2
and check "serial" in the right window

In order for my CDKey to show up in the register part of the launcher or in the registry I had to start the game and then start a new game. I completely exited out of the game and the launcher. This put the key in the registry. It also auto populated the key in the register part of the launcher the next time I ran the game.

Hope that helps.

Sadly, I had to buy 2 copies of the game since the retail version doesn't work, so I guess I'll be using the CD key from my collector's edition.

Not sure what you people are on about, for me when i clicked the dlc from the launcher it asked for a key but you can ignore it and click the word download just below. once you then close that window the launcher will show your download progress. maybe you're just confused

Hope that helps

edit: Also to clarify after it finishes downloading the launcher will say "Troll trouble is ready to be installed" so you must click downloadable content and choose the dlc again and where it said download it should now say install.

Well, I finally got it registered (Yay!). However, now it apparently doesn't actually log me in when I launch the game so I still can't get the DLC rofl *bangs face against desk*

from the launcher pick register
create an account... then login.
The key is already there once you login and register the game.

then you can get (some) DLC.

Browse to that key.

I dont feel safe doing that at all.. It HAS to be an easier way for gods sake, can't expect everyone that buy it on steam to know this ♥♥♥♥

You can also type in regedit into the "search for programs and files" bar after hitting the start button.

Windows + R opens the run dialog box as well.

I've checked regedit like 5 times now.
I'm a medium knowledgable computer user.

The serial for the game simply isnt listed and i checked every possible reference to the witcher 2 or CD etc for the key.

Its simply not there.

And no : playing game - quitting - registering doesnt add anything.. it stays blank.

Someone posted it earlier, but I followed their advice and was able to get my key without screwing with the registry. Simply start the game (by clicking "Launch Game" in the Witcher 2 launch pad) then quit once you're at the main menu. Then go into your Witcher 2 folder (program files/steam/steamapps/common/the witcher 2) and run the register.exe (second one from the bottom). Log in when it prompts you to and then when it asks for your key, it should already be in the input box so you just click "next" and finish the registration process.

Note that even once you're registered it may still take several tries to actually log in to download the DLC, took me several tries to get it even after I sorted out the cd-key nonsense.

Launched it once, then tried to register again and the key was filled in.
