Let's be reasonable guys. Steam couldn't possibly have predicted that lots of people would want to download the game just when it releases.

Yeah, yeah..it happens. This is why steam should have let us pre load the game.

So what? That isn't my problem. If I promise a client a product by a certain date, I make sure they have it, even if I have problems with the supplier. Steam have been doing this long enough to have anticipated this problem, so should have been on the phone to CD Projekt days ago.
Having said that, we have still not reached the time that was originally announced for the release (6pm BSM tonight) so as long as I can start downloading then with no issues, I will be happy.

It really p**** me off that Steam can't automatically retry starting the download if the servers are busy. Instead, I have to go to my computer every 10 minutes and manually try to start the download again an again. Not that fun the 37th time you have to click "I agree" on the license agreement...
So far about 5 hours without being able to start the download...

Don't do it that way. Instead keep trying a different server until you get one that goes straight away. Ok, you have to restart steam each time but that's quick and once it starts you're on your way. There are loads of servers in the US accepting connections with speeds between 200 and 300KBS from here in the UK.

Its been said many times, EU players can switch to US servers to download. I recommend easy coast servers but some had luck with west coast servers.

Can safely say this is the last game i ever get from Steam. Constantly battling horrible download speeds with every game i buy on here. Got 100Mbit fiber and usually download ~9 Mb/s .. sitting here with thair crap chewing at 200k to 1Mb/s wich dont justify the prices they charge.
Direct2Drive for me for all other games released or directly from seller like EA. Steam is as bad as anything can be in the days of high speed internet.

That's not fair Sayne - it's only slow when a good game is released. Try buying a piece of crap on day of release and it works just fine.

I am still frustrated. I was waiting for the game for quite some time and I'm annoyed at this lack of pre-loading.
Just to confirm: if I download from the USA, do I get the standard US version without anything like censorship or anything?

I agree, this is completly unacceptable from Steam. I feel sorry for the developers as they also pay steam for a service they are not getting. I have aover 40 games registered and bought on steam and the last 2 I bought has been suffering from Valve being f*cking slow. In 1 game they refuse to add the latest patch and now this. I'm gonna give steam 1 more chance, if it fails then I'm never buying another game on here.

I also have the error "The Steam Servers are currently too busy to handle your request".
Additionally, the store page doesn't seems to know I bought the game. Usually the page says "You already own this game"
Does anyone has that "problem" too?
And yes, there was nothing unfamiliar during payment.
So, i'm not sure to panic or have a bit of patience :).

Getting 1.1mb from manchester
Im in Scotland and got 1.1mb as well an improvement compared to the US regions.
Thx
@Hirvine
In Steam, view > settings > download + cloud > download region
You'll get a drop down menu, you can pick a region from there.
I have no idea where you live in so...either pick and EU or US region Seattle or San Jose
I just recently changed to Manchester and it worked

I got mine working by spamming the install button. Once it comes up with the "too busy" dialog box, you can press enter five times to quickly get back to the installing dialog. It took about 15 goes in quick succession, but it worked eventually.

I finally managed to get it going from a US region then move back to the UK, afaik it doesn't affect the region of the game you get otherwise if you changed from one region to another you'd have to re-d/l the whole game.
As for those moaning about steam being crao because of the d/l issues, well what do expect when there's most probably between 10,000 - 100,000 people all trying to hammer the same servers at the same time, there aren't many if any companies that can offer that many threads to be connected at the same time, all d/l a 17gb file.
