So how goes it for you?

I gotta say, with all the negativity swirling around pre realease, I was worried it would be a disaster, because apparently the XBOX 360 version sucked. I'm a huge fan of Fable 1; I first played it about 6 months ago and it easily became one of my favorite games of all time. And I'm pretty darn picky:)

Granted I've only played about 3 hours into it, it's easily exceeded all of my expectations. I'm playing on the lowest of the low graphics (I'm on a mac) and the game looks beautiful. It runs very smooth and I've yet to encounter any bugs, except my character seems to dig his hands through a treasure chest as he's opening it.

The gameplay is great, the combat is very relaxed yet fun. I'm playing on Challenging difficulty, and it's not as easy as others would have you believe. Stuff dies pretty easy, but you have to be careful not to get hit. As a result it becomes necessary to know how and when to use range, magic and melee. But like I said, it's your typical adventure combat with plenty of variety. They've really improved on Fable 1's combat, yet I can see it's roots. The cinematic kills are a nice touch that makes combat feel epic. I'm not sure how I feel about infinite mana yet. I hope the spells are as creative as Fable ones. So far all I have is the fire spell (which looks great)

The story and atmosphere is awesome so far. It's still got that Fable charm that I think got me so hooked on the first one, just expanded. I love how they've implemented the characters into the games environments, it meshes perfectly with the story and is very functional. Character interactions are a bit weird, having to kind of load a conversation with someone gets sort of "meh", but it only takes a split second. The random dialogue is great, but villagers still spat out lines while your shopping or doing a mini-game, which is annoying sometimes and great at others. I remember in fable 1 playing table golf and continually hearing women and men swooned asking for a ring on their finger. I really hope it's not the same here, but it kind of seems like it.

The Sanctuary is a great idea. Not sure what everyone was complaining about, it's not that much more time consuming than the next games inventory, and it's loads of fun. I like being able to SEE what I have rather than it listed in the same old menu. Makes more sense too, in that everything I own goes to a physical place rather than blackhole in my pocket. Very fun to have Jasper comment on current scenario's as well as give some tips. I like that changing clothes or something feels like part of the game rather than stopping to sort through a list of text. The entire lack of any sort of menu does seem a bit unsettling at times, especially while shopping, but I'm coming to appreciate it quickly.

I love the Dog! I'm a huge dog lover though, so I may be biased. I like that he doesn't play that big of a role in combat or other things yet is still very useful. It doesn't seem to fit in to the whole image of a prince, though, as I never looked at any kind of royalty loving animals, but none the less I'm glad he's there.

Overall I'm very happy I pre-ordered (so far), and I've only ever paid full price for 2 or 3 games on steam. I can't seem to see all the negatives everyone is pointing out in the game, though maybe they come with time.

I played Fable 1 to death on PC. many hours of fun playing both sides.
When Fable 2 came out, I never played it. never owned a Xbox, dont plan too.
Now that Fable 3 is out for PC, I was happy. Played for a few hours and had a blast.
I enjoy playing it and will play it for a long while.

I'm like you. I loved the first Fable on PC, and never played Fable 2 because I don't have an XBox. I think a lot of PC gamers find Fable a bit too casual/easy/childish compared to some of the other great RPGs on the PC. This is true, but on the other hand, I love Fable precisely for this reason. The Witcher 2 is AWESOME, but at the same time, it's challenging as hell and I love both games for different reasons.

I'm with all of you guys. I played Fable: The Lost Chapters to a point where I don't think I can even stomach it anymore. It's a great game, but playing the hell out of a game can really kill it for you. That's why I'm glad I was given an opportunity to play a new Fable that was allegedly better than the console counterpart (I wouldn't know, I haven't played either Fable 2 or Fable 3 on the Xbox).

Having played only a small part on the Challenging difficulty, I have to say, it's not nearly as easy as people made it out to be. Granted, the console version had health regen, but even in a battle, my character gets dangerously close to dying, until I back off and spam magic at the enemies. I've died once so far, but that was because I was picking a fight with the town guards. I figure I should wait till I become stronger till I do it again.

Overall, no complaints and no bugs. A great experience despite what the reviews have said. I'm sure the game was being overshadowed by The Witcher 2 (which I'm planning on playing later), but I think it should only be fair to treat each game for what it is, and not try to eclipse it for a critically acclaimed title that happened to be released on the same day.

Agreed, Cow002. I'm enjoying it a lot too. Sure, someday I will also be getting Witcher 2, but I'm tired of all the morons comparing the two games as if it really mattered that you might actually enjoy BOTH.

That's what I was saying from the start. People would ask which game they should get, and I was put off by the concept that both was not an option. Anyway, I picked up both games on the first day, and haven't even started The Witcher 2, cause I've been so busy with Fable 3.

Your first impression seems a bit odd. Did you not notice a lack of tripple buffering, how the game forces a 30 fps cap when using vsync, or the extreme use of blur. Luckely we can work our way around most of the problems found in fable 3, but it is still terrible coding.

No, but like I said, the graphics and effects are completely scaled down as my laptop can't run it very well otherwise. Maybe it's a visual option you can tinker with. Rule of thumb for me is to always turn off V-sync as it completely ruins whatever game I'm playing

Amen!
Some ppl complain about the tearing u get when disabling vsync. But in my case anyway, in this game the tearing is as good as none. It was barely playable with vsync. Without vsync and maxed graphics, yeah, I love this game ^^
The atmospehere is just truly amazing.

But then I'm not a computer geek that gets all worked up when AA or other graphical changes don't work perfect.
But I dare to say I'm more experienced in computers than the average Joe. To sum it up; the graphics and controls may not be perfect. And sometimes you notice some minor flaws, like the dog's AI.

But it sure is good enough if you just want to have a good time with a good game.
Well worth the £39.99!
