hi there.

I´ve baught thief 3 a while ago. now i´ve got the above Problem.
i´m in contact with steam support about a week now - but either they wont read the context of my support inquiry, or they dont have the time to.

the Problem is as follows:

the game downloads to 99% and then stops. the steam client sometimes shows download activity - everything between 3 bytes and 80 kilobytes in a more or less random fashion. when i try to start the game it says: "Steam hat Probleme eine verbindung zu den steam-servern herzustellen" (i know its german - but i should not try to translate). the support people made me delte most of the client files (with some exceptions) - and then restart the client. didnt work.

they made me reset some network things. i read the word winsock somewhere in the Process. seems that someone thaught that i couldnt connect to steam at all - which wasnt the case since everything else works good - other steam games included.

i tried to delete and re-download the game content but it´s still stuck at 99%.

has anyone of you an idea how to fix the Problem? this is the first time that the steam people disappointed me in matters of technical things - so i´ll try to fix it myself instead of accusing them of something they dont deserve. but since i´m not that skilled in computer questions, i need community help for that.

thanks for all hints that lead me to the Problem solution.

Greetings.

Try right clicking the game in your steam games library and choosing pause update (or resume when paused) a few times in quick succession.

I have had no problems (like this) with T3 but sometimes I get this with CSS updates and after a few clicks of pause/resume it jumps immediately to ready to play.

hope it works for you.

okay - this did sound quite reasonable - i heard this some time ago.
I just tried it here, but have to admit defeat once again.
thanks anyway.

i have talked to a friend with some more experience and he said that he would bet his money on a Problem with the steam servers. since most of the possibilities of a local error (at least to my knowledge) are eliminated by now, i agree with him.

igf anyone has another idea on what it could be, i will be glad to test it.

Thx
