Cheaters/hackers, are there really so many?

Title says it all. Thread after thread on these forums has post after post of people complaining, they all say the MW2 MP experience is ruined as it's full of cheaters/hackers. How can this be so? Don't they get VAC banned? Does the VAC system work or is it so flawed that games can be ruined like this

Anyway, I guess I'll find out for myself tonight when I get off work, and if it's all that bad I'll have a crack at CoD4 instead. There is still the SP element to enjoy, and I know I will enjoy that having owned these games on 360.

There aren't many hackers nowadays on mw2, but what you do often see are random hackusations based on score, stupidity, and one killcam.

I have played over 1000 hours in MW2, since the release date, and I have been in a total of max 5 hacked lobbies, you usually know straight away so you can back out immediately, and met maybe 5 real aimbotters. So,99.9 % of the time I have been fine.

Just make sure to use the MW2config tool to save your progress and to avoid free weekends.

I just watched a video about MW2 Config tool and it seems very useful, if only as protection against hacked servers. Is it fully legit though? Can I use it safely without being beaten to death with a VAC hammer?

Hackers are numerous in this game compared to others, but not nearly as numerous as the community makes it out to be.

That's because I don't really play that often, and if I encounter one it's one per week/2 weeks.

He actually don't even hide it - owning everyone aimlessly. And just to be clear of how effective VAC - he plays with hacks at least since July 11, 2010. Almost a year! YEAR! And still not VAC banned.

In my opinion, there are more cheats then players realize. It's just that the cheats work at not making it so obvious. I've spectated numerous suspected cheats and watched their aim follow you behind the wall. But they only shoot when you come into the open as to not look obvious. How can that not be cheating? I understand that you can hear footsteps but I've witnessed it happening from a substantial distance(across the map).
Also, I believe cheats can be enabled or disabled mid-game and the cheater will do this depending on the situation. Ex. big lead they disable or if they're behind they enable. Your thoughts?

Ran in to a cheater today. He was using aimbot and ESP. He tried to hide it but it was obvious to everyone. Later, he admitted it. That was Ground War. I then went to Domination and he was there too. After a game with him, went back to Ground War and lo and behold, there he was again. He kept changing his name and moving between Ground War and Domination.

But, I knew who he was in the recent players list even though he did a decent job of throwing people off from finding his name. I reported him every time.

On the whole, there are not as many hackers as people claim. But there are few things to keep in mind. There are some regions of the world that are thought to have more hackers or less hackers, depending on opinion. Also, depends on VACs cycle. If they have just done a ban wave then there will be less hackers but that is the same as any anti-cheat service. But don't forget that once a player is banned that account is banned, not their hardware so they are free to buy another account to hack. So, if you were able to look at total amount of bans for MW2 some of them would be repeat offenders.

I am new too this (or any other multi-player fps game. I got to level 44 before getting in too some hacked server and suddenly becoming level 70.. since I want to gain my own levels and unlock my own things I had to go to the most recent windows backup.. 5 days old. So I was level 30 again. Now i am level 39 and yesterday I again got dumped in a server ran by one of those bastards and again I am level 70. I back up more now, but still lost a very nice achievement.

You guys tell me if this is a problem..

Every game I see player whining about others using tubes, camping or sniping.. all things the programmers added to the game, so part of it, I would like too see 10% of that 'outrage' used against REAL cheaters..

VAC only works with dedicated servers, so hackers can freely do anything they want in this game. I just got rank hacked too today, now im level 70 (no prestige or emblem/title unlocks) just by playing the game normally and then a hacker joined and bum.

First he hacked the KS rewards (20 harriers on the sky) then reseted the game and rank hacked.

After the sale there's no recoil cheaters EVERYWHERE, even encountered several clans that use them. played 20 games, 18 had no recoil cheaters in them.
In those 20 games I additionally saw the following cheats:
-auto aim
-invisibility (invisible on killcams too)
-wallhack
-carepackage hack

I really regret having bought this game.
I tried black ops and I liked it but I checked steam stats and I saw more people playing MW2 so I bougth it.
There are less players than steam stats say and most of the times I cant get full green conection.
And the worst thing is that there are many cheaters. I never thought would exist many cheaters playing on steam.
I was playing about 4 hours since yesterday and I have seen 3 autoaim cheaters.
How many cheaters with hallhacks are playing? Who knows.
I must go back MW1 or BFBC2 :(

If you run into terrible aimbotters, pull out your shield and his aim will be stuck at your face so you can just run up and bash his skull into 100 different pieces. When they die as much as their victims trash talking can be fun, as they might just leave you alone.

Invisibility? Did they have God Mode? Or flaming skull textures?

actualy im in with a hacker now, he just got 4 head shots in like 2 seconds and he has no cooldown on his ac130, just a constant stream of 150mm, but i suppose thats jsut hackusations.

Ran into an aimbotter earlier this week and after I switched to my sheild class I had him on the run lol. Awesome!!
