I just bought this game and when I select to join a server, it keeps finding and finding and if i'm lucky it will connect to a server but most of the time it will just keep looking for a server. Is this normal or is there some kind of setting I need to change? My NAT says open in the game settings.

Right now MW2 has 30k players in so I guess its on your end, dunno why though.

Same here. I just got the game, and I can't even join. How disappointing. I don't know where the 30k stats are from. ; (

Yeah then it's rather odd... If you were only living on the south-pole or smth then it would make sense :/

IF you suffer from this problem, here is the fix:
JOIN a steam MW2 group, OR have friends on your list who play (option 1 is for those who have no MW2 friends yet)
Now, join game on someone who is already playing.
Now, finish the in progress game.
Now, back out AFTER you get back to the lobby.
Now you can find games.
Please make an effort to spread the fix.

Generally only need to do this once?

indeed, just once, it should fix it. Well, I did it once, then it was fixed, and I haven't had to again.

thats not the fix, it really is not. it will only seem to work due to it taking the time it would have taken for your game to receive the playlist information. waiting has the same effect.

Well creating a private server and joining a team. Exited and looking for a server worked. Sad that I have to do it every time. But meh the game still rocks.

im telling you you do not need to do that, just wait for a few minutes and it will work.

I just tried right now finding matches in Team Deathmatch, I just get stuck on Finding Games, it's starting to anger me. I have NO problems playing any other Multiplayer games, except this one. Now before you all start saying it might be my connection, I just took a speedtest, here are my results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1334402200.png

before pressing find games, wait in the menu for about 10 minutes

Toronto, Ontario.
I saw this post before I bought the game and it worried me, but I decided to buy it anyway this morning. I'm also from Toronto and I'm pleased to say that I've just played for a few hours without any problem finding games or pings in-game.
I'm not sure what your issue may be, I'm just posting this to try to give you some hope that you didn't waste $20 and that it is possible to play and enjoy the game online. Just have to get past whatever issue you're experiencing.
If it's any help, my ISP is Bell and I didn't have to do anything regarding firewalls or port forwarding, just worked fine "out of the box".
Edit: more details. I'm on Windows 7 32bit, my firewall is Symantec, I have Windows firewall on as well, and I played just the vanilla MW2 (no DLCs).
