View Full Version : You know what #/%& me off? (First Access Club and STEAM)

On the steam client, there are topics, such as:

"Duke Nukem Forever demo available now to First Access Club members"

"Duke Nukem Forever DLC free to pre-order customers"

...aaand if you actually pre-ordered through steam, you will _NOT_ get the First Access Club access.

So basically I read FROM STEAM that I'll get a First Access Club pass if I pre-order, then pre-ordered, then found out I can't get it through steam. Amazing. :|

That's just downright stupid. Sure, I only pre-ordered the game like a week ago but I DID read about the First Access Club through steam and OBVIOUSLY assumed I'll get it, pre-ordering through steam. NNnope.

(This might, and most likely has been addressed multiple times, in one form or another, so I apologize, but just had to get this off my chest.. And didn't find a topic that addresses the fact how backwards the whole thing is. Sucks that they pretty much "advertise" such a feat without actually supporting it themselves. They COULD'VE at least mentioned it somewhere that you can only get it if you order from ANYWHERE ELSE but steam :D *sigh*)

They said from participating retailers...or something like that... from the start.

There was a lot of discussion of the official forums talking about how Steam wasn't one of the retailers that supported it.

Oh. Well I only read things through the client and didn't go lurking around. And all the news I mentioned only say "those who pre-ordered" without any exceptions mentioned.

But oh well, I guess I gotta verify these things by informing myself better from now on. Was kinda hungover when I paid for my pre-order, maybe I did obviously miss it - I'm not denying that. :(

I mean NOW I've seen all those topics that say who offers it and who doesn't. Now that I wondered why I didn't get such a code when I pre-ordered.

Well, not that I'm downright mad about it, just kinda bummed me out, having paid for a copy already and finding out later on. Should've browsed the other forums.

So I guess my point was; Steam could've added a clearer notification for those who don't go around reading everything else aswell.

I agree they could and should have made it more apparent. For some reason they even have a pre-order placeholder for Duke Nukem and the demo itself uses Steam. Really odd.

BAN in sight?

What, me worry? :-P

Besides, do you know the meaning of the word "ignorant"?

–adjective
1.
lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
2.
lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
3.
uninformed; unaware.

So, what I was saying is that people who pre-order from Steam are unaware that release dates change constantly. That's a fact.
So, if I get to be banned for highlighting a fact, what that would make Steam forums? A place where you can only say one side of the story? So BAN me!!

He does have a point, if a demo will be made available try it first. Then consider if it's worth the money without blindly spending it. I've canceled my preorder of Halo Nukem Forever because the demo was shocking. I wasn't surprised though considering gearbox made the pc version and mutilated the whole duke nukem core mechanics and theme. :/

you're blatantly calling the OP ignorant because he pre-ordered the game. I don't think its a FACT, its just your and other's opinion. I just think that in this moment a little bit of respect and less trolling would be more adequate.

I'm calling the OP and anyone who pre-order from Steam ignorant.

Ignorant from the FACT that lots of games availeble for pre-order on Steam gets delayed.

I pre-ordered quite a few games from Steam, and after being let down by steam more than 3 times, I realized that you have to be an ignorant to do so!

I'm only doing a favor for people who are not familiar with Steam's pre-order policy! They will deley the game whenever they feel like it and you can't do anything about it! So the only thing we can do is warn ignorant people!

Well, its my second pre-order from steam. The first one were released on the date, but the game sucks so was a let down for that. (TDU 2)

now was duke. Unfortunately we only learn by facing the problems, I don't come to steam forums unless i'm having some sort of problem, and never had this kind of problem until today. Altought i really liked the demo and i'm looking foward to play the game, what makes it harder to accept.

Anybody who pre-order from Steam is an ignorant.

Well thanks for the random insult - was it really called for?

I've pre-ordered from steam once before (portal 2) and found the pre-load option pretty handy. And the 10% off deal wasn't that bad either. And overall can't really see what'd be so ignorant or wrong about acquiring the game that way.

Wanna elaborate why it's so ignorant? Or just really enjoy trolling?

Edit: oh ok, the word "ignorant" wasn't used as an offensive word this time.. nevermind then :)

And heh, I'm not complaining about the quality of the game at all. I was surprised that I didn't get the demo, even if I pre-ordered as .. well, the demo is given to people who pre-order the game AND (through steam) to people who have borderlands so I assumed 1+1 = 2 and that I'll get the demo after pre-ordering through steam (which is providing the demo through steam anyway).

if a game gets delayed its not going to matter where you pre-ordered it. if i pre-ordered it at gamestop and it got delayed 3 months I'm still not going to be able to get it a GS on 6/14

Well if you were actually trying to do me a favor; Thank you.

But are you really saying that STEAM delays THEIR personal release of a game, even if all the other dealers are sticking to the original release date? Having hard time believing that. Why would they do that? I think you've just had bad luck and have pre-ordered games that got their Official release date pushed back.

It's not steams fault at all. Ofcourse they can't release it if the developer pushes back the release. And I'm totally aware of that.

But yeah, like I said; I have only pre-ordered from steam once before and everything went A-OK and had no problems at all.

Good to know you weren't trying to be offensive though. It just seemed that way for a while there..

Aaaaand sorry for off-topicing the thread further ;P

But back to the topic: Even all the news I keep reading about Duke Nukem Forever talk about how people will get the demo and the DLC if they pre-ordered. Not singling out anything...

From eurogamer:

"Duke Nukem Forever's demo is available now to those who pre-ordered the game. It weighs in at a hefty 1.7GB. Pre-order customers also get Duke Nukem's first DLC free."

Well I pre-ordered. And that's not true, since I pre-ordered from steam. Meh.

Damn my ignorant 4ss for not making sure I'll get what I should after pre-ordering :D

Oh well. Tried the demo through other means (somewhat disappointed, but it's ok [GOD DAMN REGENERATING HEALTH >: (]) and I guess the DLC won't be THAT expensive, if it's worth it.

Good luck on your future pre-orders from Steam!
I for myself will just wait for a game to be actualy availible to buy it! It's not like I'm gonna have to get in a line to buy it, so...

And people who said I was insulting them when I called them ignorant, just go read the meaning of "ignorant" in the dictionary, would you?

Do you speak for everybody else? Some people are saying I insulted them, and I did not at all! I was just saying that people that pre-order from steam are ignorant (unaware) that release dates change! And that's really misleadind advertising when you say that you can pre-order a game and be ready to play it at day X and this game only gets released at day X+Y. So, is that fair to the consumer?

And I say one more thing: if you do pre-order even knowing that Steam might change the release date, than you're not ignorant, you're just plain STUPID! ;-)

And please, let me add just one question: whats the big deal to buy the game the day it really gets released? You'll be playing it at the same day the people that pre-ordered it! With the advantage that you won't fell that you've been fooled!

Well if you're not trying to insult, don't add that I'm stupid, I already understood you weren't trying to insult. And you're being ignorant to my whole point.. Which was not to talk about pre-ordering, it was to talk about the lack of first access club through steam :)

If the game gets pushed back a week, I don't mind. Then I'll wait like everyone else. I pre-ordered because a pre-order got me 10% off the game price.. and thought that I'd be getting the demo and the dlc. So yes, I'll be playing it the same day as the people who just buy it on the release date but I pre-ordered to try and get the benefits of a pre-order (The sale and the first access club.. which I later found out that steam doesn't provide... because.. well, being ignorant :D)

And I'm not offended, I already said I understood you're not trying to offend.

"if you do pre-order even knowing that Steam might change the release date, than you're not ignorant, you're just plain STUPID! ;-)" <- And to that; STEAM DOES NOT DECIDE THE RELEASE DATES OF GAMES :) The game developers do.

Yeah, well, true. While being all hungover about a week ago I figured "Hell, I'm gonna buy it anyway eventually coz I actually have been waiting from the announce date (the whole 12 years or so), might as well pre-order and get the benefits of a pre-order"

Don't know if it was 100% worth it though, but at least it was only like 40euro's or so.. I did dload the demo eventually and tried it... The regenerating healthbar was a __HUGE__ disappointment, otherwise I guess it's ok. (though a massive arsenal would've been awesome too... I really hoped for an old school FPS feel to it.)

One of the major advantages to Steamworks games is that you can usually get them from Retailers for less with extras, this is a great example of that.

I pre-ordered it through Play.com,got my first access code for the demo, then cancelled the pre-order.

Now I have bought it on Steam (my preferred choice) so hopefully I will get the free DLC.No big deal if it doesn't work out that way.

Gearboxes website has had a big FAQ since the preorders and First Access Club was announced, no where did it say Steam, not every retail is getting the First Access Club either, not just Steam.

The only problem is; I have never visited Gearboxes website. Ever. I heard from First Access Club through steam and there wasn't a single notification that steam doesn't provide it.

And just a few simple points made me think steam is an obvious participant in the First Access Club thing:

1) Steam is providing the demo for download and the First access club code to people who have bought a game from steam. The game being Borderlands GOTY. (You'd think you could actually get the code from DUKE NUKEM FOREVER aswell, as it's ... well, more obvious to get it by buying the game in question)

2) Steam is pretty much "advertising" (I read the news from steam, though sure, the news are from eurogamer) that those who pre-order will get the F.A.C. deal.

3) All the news from eurogamer (on the steam client) only say "people who pre-order will get first access club" - end of story. Not a single exception is listed.

So how was I supposed to doubt it and go around reading for FAQ's? I mean, now I know. Now that I have paid for the pre-order.

But yeah... no biggie. At least I'll get to play the damn game in about 4 and a half hours. (At least if the game unlocks at midnight, Finnish time.)
