This game has smaller and worse maps than call of duty, almost every map only has two ways to go down and it's a spray off.
Why are the maps THAT small, i didn't think they'd be huge but i wasn't expecting my sandbox in the backyard to be bigger.

How many maps did you play in? Two? There are a huge number of maps for different game types. All maps are not available in the Beginner channel.

LOL? what were you expecting? a battefield like map?
this game isn't for 64 peoples or anything closer to it.
Its 16 players max dude, consider this as a Counter-Strike with Unreal 3 Engine (only Demolition mode of course ;))
Try playng Escort mode its realy fun and maps aren't that little.

You might have only played a few Annihilation maps, most of them are small and annoying.

The maps are designed a ton better than most F2P FPS titles for the Demolition/SnD game mode. They are geared towards competitive play of 5vs5.
If you were expecting maps similar to Battlefield, then you are not going to be interested in the genre that is AVA.
If you were coming from Call of Duty, then you are probably going to be a little let down. However, at higher levels of play the maps do lend themselves to quite interesting plays of strategy. You do have to learn a lot with nades, positions, rotations, and flanking but guaranteed it is there, though they are not as good as CoD4 maps. They are certainly better than MW2/BO maps for Demo.
Demolition has the best maps in the game. Every other game mode has crappy map design in comparison.

As a long time Counter-Striker, I have to agree with Inky.
For a free game, there are a lot more maps than I would have expected, and there are a lot more interesting features in those maps than in the IW maps that you paid shocking amounts of money for.
On the other hand... Bunnyhopping. Jarate.
