Is the version now available on steam without origins/drm/ea-crap but just the game? DRM is the major concern which prevents me from buying it via steam.
thanks for the info.

erm... i think it's still there. i had to activate my game on a ea pop-up when i clicked start first time.
whats so bad about the DRM this time?
you know you can play it offline and you can install it 5 times within 24 hours.

It's bad. Dealing with one DRM is enough. What point is there for EA to put an additional DRM in there, if it's already DRM'ed through Steam.
Won't buy it then.

Your loss, the DRM runs only after an install, then it's no longer used.

That means every time I reinstall windows which is about once a month. Maybe I buy it on amazon then, if steam doesn't take away the drm problem :o

ffs!!!!! i'm gettin uber pissed off. steam has came up with error like 5 times i've typed this message!
ok buy off retail seems right for you.
DRM is very light.
*you can only install the game 5 times in 24 hours then it resets the counter.
*only on install it requires an internet connection where you just copy and paste the key intoa pop-up window and then you can play offline

And why do you needlessly reinstall you O/S every month?

Let me see, you nitpik about a DRM that would let you install the game 5 times a day and only run after a install, but you have to re-install windows every month? (BTW this DRM will still be there on the retail version)
Seriously? =p
Forget ALICE, you need a new computer! :) (I bet you have Windows XP)

if you purchase the steam edition, you get the origin edition free :S
so which ever version you get, you still get a version on origin.
Steam costs £30 while Ea store costs £35 .... but cokezone codes knock it down to £25. amazon is £25 too.
but you don't have to run origin when you want to play the game so you can play the game steam free too even if you purchased it off steam lolz.
don't know if this helps but to conclude which ever way you purchase it, you'll still be using origin to either activate the key or download the game too.
(can't confirm if you need to download origin when purchased from steam, i have it already installed...)
if you're reinstalling your OS every month to keep the desktop preformance up, maybe you should consider a SSD. might be an overkill but it saves energy in the long, boot ups in 30 seconds even after 4 months use which allows me to turn my pc off when ever i want then boot it back up 5 minutes later ;)

Yeah definitely.
Reinstalling his operating system every month?
The DRM in Alice is the least problems he should be worrying about.
He should Stop downloading porn and search up ways to keep his PC running at top condition such as defragmenting.

Thanks that is exactly what I wanted to know. It is just a bit lame. I don't want to create a new account for every game I purchase, when I know I'll forget the password and registration details anyway a month later. And when they have my contact information their server get hacked in 3 years when nobody cares about the game anymore. A hack just happened to EA a couple of days ago.
I am just careful with whom I trust my personal information and my data in the cloud. I do trust Steam to some degree, but certainly not EA. Trust has to be earned. I was hoping to escape EAs regime, but if it's not possible I'll just pass.
Games shouldn't keep me from reinstalling my OS. It's windows, it'll get slow after a few months even if defragment it into the ground, it's the same in Vista/7/XP.

But your gonna have to find out what's making it slow.
You need evidence of why Windows is slowing down overtime.
Is it the amount of installed programs you have? Registry cluttering.
It's a pain to reinstall your operating system and then back up everything, install all your games then Windows Update which takes forever.
How can you live that way? It just takes forever to put back everything the way it was.... Knowing full well your gonna do it again next month.

lol im full formating my 1 Tb secondary harddrive because the prefomance has dropped by 20%. i personally blame the defrag programme and it a one you pay for too! i'll need to do some benchmarks to proove this of course but i'm not defragging again!

No offense but if you believe that you need to educate yourself.
