View Full Version : Unlocking Physics Options from the start

So, lots of people are having trouble with the missions. That's alright in one sense, means they can be challenging, but it also means that a lot of people are missing out on some of the cooler features in the game!

So here's what I'm thinking. I'll take all the physics stuff out of the God Options and allow them to be modified right from the start of the game. Not only is that lots of fun, but it'll also make the missions easier if you use them! If you beat a mission with physics or god options on it'll still count towards progress, but will come up as red in the Missions Progress. You'll still be able to fight the final boss and see the ending. You can also unlock God Options like that.

I'll probably add some special content or something if you beat it properly, but yeah, I want users to be able to finish the game and giving access to the physics modifiers should help. And will also make the game more fun for people who just want to screw around in the sandbox.

Thoughts?

Just make the missions easier, and have a challenge mode with tougher versions of the missions. Challenge mode can just be for extra difficulty or you can also have challenge mode unlock something extra. It doesn't have to be anything special; any little thing will do.

I also don't think you should be able to activate a mission like the one where you have to destroy an entire system unless you're past a certain point in the evolution of your system.

I managed to beat all the missions yesterday after difficulty was adjusted, but i can well imagine that some people want to play around in the sandbox instead of doing them.

Based on the achievements only 2,6% of the players know who "The Entity" is, so only 2,6% of the players had the fun final boss fight, seen the ending, and only 2.6% can use the extra options for fun sake. That kind off low, and to be frank: Those options are a lot of fun to play with in sandbox mode. In other words: 97,4% of the players are missing out. (And since 80% got to the crunch, there are a lot of people with at least one play-trough).

I would suggest unlocking them from the start, or perhaps after you do your first big crunch cycle. The latter may be better since it actually adds a reward for a full loop, rather then just an achievement. If possible i would also like an achievement to get "Greens" on all of the missions. That way there is some incentive to do em fair and square, while also allowing people to access all the games content to their liking.

Yeah, I've just added this in and it seems to be okay. The people just interested in the sandbox will really like it, and the people struggling with the missions will find some of the options very helpful. It almost works as a sort of "Easy Mode".

Beating the game still gets you some of the better God Options, and beating the game properly unlocks a few more things and I'll probably add an Achievement for beating the game properly (anyone who has already beaten the game will unlock this immediately).

I'm going to add some more God Options too, such as allowing more ships and turrets.

A lot of the missions took a few tries but were enjoyable and the final boss was fun with a nice twist :D

Beat it a few days back, but congrats on the great game!

Physics is fun to play around with, but unlocking too much might make the game even harder for when they try to beat the missions properly if they adjust to a different gravity, etc...

Here's an idea as well. Make playing the game without messing with the God Options an achievement. That way there's still reason to play with it as you originally designed.

Yeah, I have added an achievement for that. So if you beat the game properly you get an achievement along with some extra things. Anyone who has already beat the game will unlock this right away.

Ah, good. I didn't know if that achievement would unlock if you changed the physics (I guess you can tell I haven't messed with that yet).
