Age range and multiplayer questions

What is the age range of this game? I'm considering buying this for myself and my two sons to play together.

Also, does anyone have details on how the multiplayer works? Is it like Civ 5, is it only real-time with a set speed? Can there be co-op play against the computer AI? I generally prefer co-op over pvp.

The game itself has no definite age range, but there is no explicit violence, and no real language to speak of. Of course, online, you can't predict what anyone will say.

The game is real-time rather than turn based, but multiplayer server hosts can change the speed or pause whenever you want.

You can set teams at the beginning of a game to allow a co-op vs AI game.
