YES, you can run a dedicated Terraria Server on linux with just the terminal

I am running Ubuntu server 11.04, with TDSM (Terraria Dedicated Server Mod)

you need mono and TDSM.

1.) sudo apt-get install mono-runtime
2.) wget http://kangaroo.olympus-gaming.net/Terraria_Server.exe
3.) chmod a+x Terraria_Server.exe
4.) \. Terraria_Server.exe
it ask you if you want to quite to edit the config ... yes
5.) vim server.properties
press i for insert mode
edit the file
ctr+c to exit insert
shift z, and shift z again to save and exit
6.) assuming your router is good to go just type \. Terraria_Server.exe

- Tweak
- my server is now at home.wookiewartribe.com -p 7777
- of course its running tdsm but TDSM DOES LINUX

Heh just stumbled upon your post fieldju, thanks a bunch! Finally a Terraria server running on my Linux VPS (Debian Lenny) :). I don't know if this is your thread on the TDSM forums:
I basically had to compile the specific mono version linked there (2.10.2). Works like a charm :).

The link you said to wget dosnt work anymore. All it downloads is a html page. Can anyone post an updated link?

Here you go, updated link.

You can't directly wget it. I'm going to upload it to one of my servers and will try to keep it as up to date as possible with what they have. I'll be uploading it shortly and will post the link you can use to wget from.

Also check out http://www.tdsm.org Good info!

Actually I realized, I think it may be wgeting the correct file, just need to change the name of it because it's using the default index.php file name. Try it and let me know!

btw, if you are trying to run it and find you can't due to not having the latest version of mono then you might want to check here and add the repository: http://badgerports.org/

Needless to say I could not get my version of mono to update past 2.6.7 which wasn't enough to run TDSM. Finally got it to work with no issues by adding the badgerports repository to /etc/apt/sources.list

You can do this easily enough by SSHing into your server and doing

echo "deb http://badgerports.org lucid main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list

Note, this worked for Ubuntu Server 11.04. I give no guarantee this will work for you and I offer no warranty or tech support if for some reason you fubar your box or the above command(s) do not produce the desired outcome.

Seeing as though there are tons of nodeJS hosting companies out there for free I was wondering if there is a nodeJS Terraria server.
