View Full Version : Suggestion for Addons

I think it would be great if Valve could add an "Addon" section like L4D2 where all the addons would be regrouped and could be launched there.
It's just that bringing up the console and typing the thing to launch the addon is kinda cumbersome for someone like me..
I don't know if this was already suggested or already in Valve's works but anyway I just wanted to make sure it was.
Not a bad idea though, is it?

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing a 'Custom Maps' menu in the DLC... an actually good one where the normal, advanced and challenges of the same map were displayed in the same slot, as well as your best times/steps/portals for each one. The bonus maps window from Portal 1 was a total mess once you had over 3 custom levels installed... :p

This may be just me, but I would like to customize my portal colors. Like painting items in TF2. For example: Primary portal would be green, secondary portal would be pink. Which includes a color wheel, and preset color sets would be for sale in the store.

What's the link with my idea?
Also, NO

Good idea, why haven't they done this already?

Umm... no...?

An addon button would be nice.
In regards to custom portal colours, couldn't you just change the texture files (presuming that's how its done)?

In Portal 1, it was indeed possible to change the texture files for portal colours, but Portal 2 absolutely refuses to read custom versions of the portal materials unless there's nothing else. And, making it so that there's nothing else also involves deleting all the game's models, so one wouldn't want to do that.

Wouldn't all it take is a VPK with the new texture shoved in the addon folder like it is for L4D(2)? I'm not sure how the egnine treats a portal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Textures in the Portal 2 folder(s) usually override the ones in the pak01 VPK, even without the "-overridevpk" option, with this one exception. Textures in addon folders/VPKs, however, never override anything.

Odd? I was able to retexture/reskin Zoey just fine by VPKing it up and shoving it in the addons folder in L4D2. I don't see why they would change things.

Maybe I'm mistaken. I mightn't have tried actually VPKing it.
