View Full Version : I didn't care for it . . . at all

Nothing long winded here, but after reading so many great reviews I decided to pick this game up during the sale last weekend. I got it for $19 which is a nice price. It is just plain boring for my tastes. You walk around (in a brown world) and swing at things that swing at you. The combat is just repeatedly left clicking your mouse until something dies. I didn't expect much from the graphics, but after logging in I was let down, another brown world game with everything being a shade of brown. And as others have mentioned, there are a lot of jaggies . . . the AA just isn't implemented properly to me, all settings maxed.

A waste of $19 for me. I really should have downloaded the demo first, but I was sure that the game was worth every penny of $19 . . . I was wrong. Better luck next time I guess.

I'm actually OK with the graphics and I don't recall them being particularly brown, but I have a thread discussing how bland I find the combat. It seems like a very promising game and well loved so I'm going to give it about ten hours before I decide whether I want to continue or not. I'm hopeful it gets more interesting as it goes and that I can pick cooler skills as time goes on.

Monitor tinting?

No, that is not an issue, actually the blandish colors are just a small part of it. I just don't care for the combat or visuals, I'm not saying it's the worst game I've played, but it is pretty bland overall to me.

If I really spent some time getting deeper into the game perhaps I could grow to like it. Usually though, I just don't have that kind of patience. A game should grab your attention in some way very early on, basically if you don't really enjoy playing it after an hour or so, then there are probably better games out there for your tastes is my opinion.

Still, I'm aware that everyone has different tastes, I'm just throwing it out there that it may not suit everyone to quite the degree you might assume from all the rave reviews. Cheers!

If you have an Nvidia card, create a new profile for the game and you can jack up the AA all you want. I did this and it helped everything look that much nicer.

I think I was running it at 16x AA in the settings which should be more than enough.

Try playing a bit longer. Once you leave the first area it picks up.

Try playing a bit longer....

I'd have to agree with this sentiment. There were times early on where I kept saying to myself, "man, I don't know about this game." But keep going. It gets better... and it appears it keeps getting better so far. Keep playing... or don't.

I'll keep that in mind.

brown world ?? where ?- in my version its pretty colorful... - boring combat ? oh no ! its fun- wait until you get all that awesome anmations going! ! playing 30 minutes won´t reveal much.give it a try- if you like action rpg- you might start to love this.its an long way until you get the dragonform, but its an immensely fun way- and its rewarding when you get there.truly epic gameplay later on.

to open a "this game is boring and brown" poll could be based on some more knowledge about the game- otherwise its just not very credible.and its just untrue- the game is NOT brown... :D

What, did you expect auto-attack instead?

For me, the fun started right away and just kept ratcheting up to the point where I just completely fell in love with the game.

Yes, the game just keeps getting more and more awesome.... However, that is based on the idea that you liked it from the get-go.

well said ! for me its stuff like the humorous wish well or the sexy-chest that make the game really something special. the dialog is excellent - just listen closely what people talk to each other in some areas.they react to the quest you solved making hilarious comments to each other. (when the blacksmith receives the love-letter- for example)

I thought combat was respectable right from the start. The single biggest boost is when you get super jump and it continues on from there. Wonderful combat model, I played a battle mage a mix of ranged magic, melee and healing. A true one man band.

The beginning mostly feels like every other sword and magic quest. I suggest to keep going. The game has its own surprises and personality as you delve deeper and allow yourself to get immersed in the world and the characters.

sounds like the witcher 1. that game took 6 to 8 hours to get interesting.
Edit: if its anything like Risen i will like it i am about to play the demo now

When I was playing the Witcher I thought it was the best action rpg I ever played. Now that I have traveled further into Dragon Knight I put Witcher second to Dragon Knight.

I'm playing the game on hard mode as a melee fighter and I get rocked badly if I just use the left click regular attack all the time without dodging spells/arrows or using knockdowns to keep the enemy from hitting back.

So yeah, maybe you would've had more fun with a higher difficulty setting.

I found with AA using my ATI card, I had to turn off AA option in game before AA would work. I think there is something wrong with the logic in the game. But I get no jagged edges when I have AA set in CCC and AA turned "off" in the in game options.

I find the graphics alright, though a bit bland. And I dont really care for how the lighting "darkens" in some areas and throws off my sight a bit. But the dungeons generally look very nice IMO. I really like the slow crawler style of this game. I like to explore everywhere and take a long time doing it. Some combat here and there, but the primary of the game is exploration and story.

I'm playing a battlemage, so I dont just "click to kill". I do some spell casting, strafing runs, melee, dodge, back out, etc, so it's not very bland for me. I like the combat, though some aspects could be smoother.

I do wish there were more puzzles. Also some mind games from the mind read feature would be nice as well.

All you talked about mostly were the graphics. Looks good to me and is not all brown at all. Oblivion you just click your mouse in combat too but there is number crunching going on behind the scenes based on your characters abilities/level, etc.

The game's graphics are not bad, the only thing I found odd was the lack of shadows on the NPC's, which just made things a bit odd, your character has a shadow but no one else. This was supposidly by design, but still does not seem right.

Divinity 2 is awesome.

I really hated the expansion, though. You are stuck in one town, can't turn into a dragon until the very end, and--worst of all--there are like 1,000 boring fetch quests. Also, it seems like most quests had "puzzles" which usually just devolved into boring pixel hunts where you have to look for some random and tiny brown switch on a brown wall to open up a door or invisible wall.

I don't mind a few "hey will you find my ring for me" type quests, but it seems like 90% of the quests in the expansion where this sort.

It was really a disappointment, especially after Divinity 2 which I thought had some very good quests.

the combat is hack and slash but when you get further on and become a dragon knight the game becomes more complex as you fight on foot and as a dragon in aerial battles that are more fun and give the game a unique feel, stick with it and see

I absolutelu love this game except flying fortresses later on (i never had my ♥♥♥ handed to me so badly).

Few things op is definetely wrong:

A. Game is not brown. Its actually very beatiful and lively.

B. Combat isn't click fest. You really need to think when to dodge or flee and be careful. It might be click fest on easy difficulty but even on normal planning is necessary.

C. I AM THE WALRUS!

Game IS beautiful and lively. The combat also is one of the best i saw in a rpg,it's tons of fun!!.Play as an archer, stun your foes than poison them or if they come in a group just blast an explosive arrows, run, dodge, jump, than shoot some more and watch them fall without even touching you...if you got the skillz

I will agree also that the first hour of the game is not so good, but it really picked up after you leave the beginner area.

I put off getting this game for quite some time, as I had read some mixed reviews about it. I finally broke down and got it. (With the help of a -50% coupon.) I am really loving this game so far and wish I had've bought it sooner. The combat isn't the greatest but I find the storyline quite interesting. The parts where you play as the dragon are quite fun too. I am only about 3 hours in and recommend it.

The game is fun, and, yes, the fun starts at Sentinel Island. :-) The story is truly a wonder! You'll be baffled at how amazing it is. (No spoilers!)

Got this for 3.99 from amazon a while back and just now starting to check it out. The graphics are kind of lol like I have it turned on 8x AA but don't see any actual AA in the game. The plot kind of reminds me of this free to play browser based mmo (http://www.achaea.com) called Achaea that i play once in awhile. The crafting is similar atleast
