I love this game

I spent $2.50 on this last year and just started playing it about 2 weeks ago. I can't stop playing it. It's a great twist on standard "elite-like" games in that the ship works differently, customization is up to you, and it's not too heavy-weight.

It can get a bit repetitive because you have to "farm" missions for money to buy all the new equipment you can when you upgrade your ship level, but in doing so you are using new equipment and upgrades and getting to see just how much meaner you are in fights.

The economy model doesn't require a college course to make money, you can be a good guy or bad guy even while working through the main story, no matter what you eventually have to smuggle or work for bad guys for a time, etc.... the story is typical but has some nice twists, and you're travelling with a very well-drawn gal that loves your ship right off the bat.

I've had no technical issues of any kind on my ASUS laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. It's easily the best $2.50 I've ever spent. I've played this game more than many I've spent real money on, and I'm not nearly finished yet.

I just wanted to give this game a good plug, since some of these topics seems to be giving it a hard time.

I love this game too. It's beautiful and although there's a good variety of commands and abilities it's really easy to control. The cheesy Euro voice acting is campy and the story is silly but I don't care - it's a heck of a fun game and very easy to get into.

Highly recommended.

I agree it was fun. I did the escort missions for money since they were the easiest and paid very well.

Have you guys ever played the privateer series? I LOVED those games (just found out it was Clive Owen in those CG's too!). I think I'm pickin this up.

I love Privateer and all the Wing Commander games. You can buy Privateer at gog.com and hopefully the rest of the series is soon to follow.

There is a free download Privateer remake. I haven't played it much yet though, but it is the same story as the expansion I believe and better graphics than the original.
