To my knowledge the publishers decide what is on sale for how much. EA is in a pissing contest with Steam at the moment, despite Steam just ignoring them, so, that is probably why.

Lots of EA titles were on sale. Dead Space 1&2, Command and Conquer, Bad Company 2... So this isn't why Crysis wasn't on sale.

not all games go on sale but Crysis 2 was taken off of steam and has becoem an exclusive on EA Origin, so a lot of EA games are undergoing a few regulations.

It's not exclusive to Origin. You can get it on other DD services.

The prices Origin are charging, will probably end up being a big failure. Most games are cheaper on the high street or online shops for that matter.

You missed it. Crysis went on sale a month or so before the summer sale as part of the Maximum Edition. I got Crysis and both expansions for $10.

How do you know that, do you get info from Valve, or are you just guessing?

It's Valve not Steam JFYI.

If it's more than rumours, please post a link to the source.

Ah buried topics on my list of topics.

Finally got back to this.

Basically, all that is known is that EA is making claims as outlined in the link. One thought is that they are purposely breaking the rules to get their games removed. Note that Valve has still said nothing and EA is known as a bigger spin machine than any political party.

Many jump to the conclusion that it is new DLC regulation, but games like Dirt3 show that this is just not true as the DLC in Dirt3 is delivered by methods other than the Steam Store and was added AFTER the Crysis e debacle.

IMO it is more likely that Valve is disallowing EA from selling nurfed versions of their games on Steam, something they have also done in the past. Picture for a moment, Steam becomes known as the place you get broken games that can't use DLC, or that Steam doesn't offer the game at all because of evil draconian DLC rules. It is a seed EA has planted, without saying it outright, and it is clear many are believing it.

The above link is not so much as a source as a point that links to many sources. The comments give reference to official comments by EA including some very odd things said during marketing meetings about Origin.

Basically, EA is spinning everything every which way and Valve is remaining stoic, hence, a variation on a pissing contest.

I expected people to look into this themselves, I still do in that I did not give a ton of sources and instead just a leaping off point. Do look into it.

I was under the impression that Steam was a sub-party of Valve, technically separate, technically not, to get around the issues with a hosting server of one developer/self publisher hosting content from others and to split responsibility. I could be wrong but it would make perfect sense and all the articles I have read gave me the impression with how they used 'Valve' and 'Steam' in very specific ways.
