I'm cool with selling the extra food, drink, potions, and armor that tends to accumulate, but it doesn't feel right to sell crafting materials. Should I just drop it on the ground on the first level or something?

Store it in the Horadic Lutefisk Cube.
That thing has an infinite amount of storage.

Man, that just made me think, "what if you put lutefisk into a lutefisk cube?" So I put all my lutefisk in and got one lutefisk. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥it.

YOU FOOL.
You put the lutefisk into the lutefisk cube instead of the maw of our glorious god!? CURSE YOU AND YOUR WASTEFUL NATURE.

When I put stuff in there, it turns it to Lutefisk. Not much use for storing all my ingots and potions. What am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong? Following the "advise" of a troll. The cube turns things into Lutefisk, which you can then take to a Lutefisk altar. It does not store items.

This.
He basically wanted you to destroy all your items by turning them into fish.

What I do to store items I may want to use later on, is I go to the starting area Level 1 or near a vendor area Level 1 that is easy to find and put things on the ground nearby.
You can stack up items on the same spot on the ground.
What I do is use 1 spot for all potions, 1 spot for all stones, 1 spot for all wands , arrows and so on.
This way it acts as a chest/sachet area, which you can come back in the future and use or stack more stuff.

Glad I only tried it out on a few bits of cheese first then!

You can put stuff in the crafting things and take them back later.

What does giving Lutefisk to the Lutefisk Altar even do? I tithed 40-something pieces before I died last time and got nothing.

I think you have to throw like 1000 before anything happens at all.

I believe it's random/based on the floor level. Took 35 for one I did, then another took 60.

You get a random artifact, the statue breaks and your lutefisk sacrifice counter is reset to 0.

The Cube turns everything into a wad of lutefisk, even multiple wads of lutefisk.

And that sucks.
I put in about 30 diggle eggs trying to get some quick fish.
Then BAM 1 fish.

Yeah someone mentioned that earlier, open a trade box and put 1 in each slot, then take from trade box and drop in lutefisk box, that will slowly split your stacks so you can get more fish.

It clearly stores items... in the form of Lutefisk.

I think he means crafting station, the ore smelting craft station is a must have for anyone, even if you have no crafting skills.

Have none of you played a roguelike before?
HOW TO DEAL WITH OVERFLOWING INVENTORY IN A ROGUELIKE:
Fine a big, safe room on the first floor. Drop everything you don't need for emergencies on the floor. Things like ingots. You can always just walk back to the first floor when you want to craft something. Save your inventory space for emergency items like potions.
Items on the floor don't disappear or anything from my observation. In more classic roguelikes, monsters will pick up objects, requiring you to find places that you can actually seal off to make a stash. But in this game enemies don't loot as far as I know, especially on the first floor, so there you go.

good advice, i started doing this recently, adds a little time to the game but, well it does save space. i usually only do this for bolts, food and booze. the rest is sold or kept for rainy day.

From what I've heard monsters on the deeper levels will steal things. (Wow, its great to be able to speculate about a game that has been out instead of finishing it within a few days of release and knowing everything important)

Kleptoblobbies steal things that are on your belt at least, i don't know if they will pick up items off the floor though.

Kleptobloobies make me sad :( they steal whole stacks and if you get robbed twice the first item they stole is gone forever :(
