can a joystick be used for this game?hate using the keyboard.

Yes. I have a Hortas X Thurstmaster, which came reasonably pre configured. I believe you can fully configure your buttons and axis's in the options, though I didn't when I played. Check out my 'review' in the other thread for impressions and a brief bit about sticks.
