for the same price i can get a caviar black 500GB, or a caviar green 1TB

question is i was origionaly going to get the caviar green.. until a few ppl i know told me they run too slow and that the black was way better - but is the speed difference between them both really that noticable?

Green drives usually run at 5500 or 5700RPMs, Blacks at 7200RPM, you want the 7200RPM

go with a Samsung Spinpoint F3, they have 500GB and 1TB models are and considered to be 1 of the best mechanical drives around.

You'll notice the speed differences with map loading in games and in some cases with Windows loading as well.

What do you want it for?
If it's going to be he OS partition then Black, if it's just storing and only storing then Green BUT, Greens have a critical design flaw that miight cause problems. You will have o tune it.

Youd really be better off with a Samsung Spinpoint, but suit yourself.

You would still be waiting for the data on the caviar green, just drop the extra money and get a black. Or get a spinpoint...

Sata III 6GB/s HDD are no faster than Sata II 3GB/s HDD FWIW...
The F3 spinpoint is a cheap alternative and it's as fast as the WD black..
