View Full Version : How do you defend against this?

I've been pondering on something.

How exactly do you defend against the following:

a) reserach jump drives & Spatial manipulators
b) get enough that you can jump to a star, use spatial manipulators
on it.
c) star goes boom. You lose the ships, enemy loses the system.

I'm doing this while jumping into systems with 200 odd battleships & 40 odd artillery platforms.
by the time they've moved to respond, I've blown the star up.

Sure its not a problem vs ai (actually an extremly effective way to stop the lag from all the ships.)
But multiplayer? Well... lets just say my friends nerd raging at me.

The purpose of the jump drive and DSFM are as game-enders, so there's not really supposed to be a particularly effective defense. A ring of stations, or a ringworld, around the star would probably do somewhat well.

Wasn't it a Bug when u build Stations in Dry Docks that they spawn around the Star?

I get that they're game enders, but its just way too easy with them.
How about a charge up time on the DSM post jump?

all it becomes once you've unlocked that is "who can spam them the fastest"

Just for small Maps or not? The Jump Drives are pretty useless for me but i played only on very very big Systems.

The larger the map, the better they become.

I mean I'm playing in a map with 250 systems. Cluster map. I can litterly jump a fleet from one side to the other, in a minute or so.

With a very Big Jump Drive?
I mean, i can't jump to the next System with a normal sized one - bigger means the Ships going to be very glasscannon like.

The effect of the jump drive (ie max distance) increases based on your Research level. So when you get around 20-25 tech levels your distance is rather significant.
