I have the Hexen games from the iD pack...

Are they actually worth playing? What exactly is good about these games? I had never even heard of them before. How is the multiplayer?

Hexen is actually really good.
Its an oldschool action game in a fantasy environment, the first game features three classes while the second has four.

Multiplayer is unfortunately very unpopular, I still very rarely see servers in various ports but normally they are empty.

Either way, its still a really good game.

For anyone who stumbles onto this thread:

Hexen is a sequel to Heretic. They are both games built on the Doom engine. Heretic plays very much like Doom in a fantasy environment but adds the ability to collect and use special items.

Hexen is the sequel to Heretic and changes the gameplay to be a little more of a departure from Doom. There are now character classes with their own unique attacks (4 each for a total of 12 across 3 classes). The levels are huge and hub based, making the traditional key and door hunts a little more vast and challenging.

These are great games, developed by Raven Software and published by iD. If you like Doom and other iD games, you'll love Heretic and Hexen.
