Seriously what where they thinking, I love this game and all but the giant eyeball with the homing electrically charged instakill tentacles and firecrackers is just overkill.

I can't get close enough to get him anymore than half health and I'm at my wits end with this guy. any help or tips would be sorely appreciated

Well, what I did was use a stone hammer and eclipse axe, both with a fire topaz, and didn't link them together. Then I just whaled on him. Oh, and you can cut his arms off.

AND after cutting his arms off, he doesn't seem to be able to throw electric stuff any more :D

I sliced him up with the flail axe blade thing.

I found the best solution was to use hit-and-run tactics. If you stay outside range for a few seconds, his tentacles will become inert again and hang down, so you can quickly circle him outside his range until you're above, then dart down and hit his core once, then run away pronto.

He's not a problem. Wielding an elaborate mace of some sort I simply smashed his arms one by one while dodging the electrical motes he deposits around the area, then hit him very hard in the core once they all hung lifeless. Sit back, take a breather and come back with a fresh perspective.

Used the Sickle. I pretty much just flew in circles around him until all his tentacles were in a bunch behind me, then delivered the pain, crushing them all in quick succession. Then, when that was done, the center part just shot off a few easy-to-dodge firecrackers while I kicked its ♥♥♥. I LOVE very heavy weapons.
