Just wondering, why can't I record this game with fraps?

I was able to, before the 2.0 update anyway. Haven't tried since then.

I am guessing that version 2.0 is not using Direct3D or OpenGL any more, so FRAPS and the Steam overlay no longer work.

For me at least it also seems to be much worse performance in any high-res graphics mode (i.e. above 640x480), suggesting it is maybe just using the Windows GDI.

You can still record the game by checking "Monitor Aero desktop (DWM)" in Fraps and then running the game in fullscreen and hitting the record key (Or run it in windowed and just crop the rest of the screen out).

It's probably just using the standard SDL drawing functions which use GDI (not hardware accelerated) on Windows by default. It's possible to make it use DirectX or OpenGL though.

IT shouln't be extremely hard adding the hardware acceleration. But for now it seems i uses GDI drawing.

You have to make Fraps record the desktop:
1. Open Fraps
2. Click on the FPS tab
3. Check Monitor Desktop Window Manager
4. Also check FPS
5. Enjoy recording.


That should do it for now, until the Steam overlay works with the game again.

Agreed; it stutters when I set it to full screen, that didn't happen in the Flash version.

That's because GDI drawing isn't very good. If they add hardware acceleration, that shouldn't happen anymore.

Sorry for not posting in here, but I went on a little get away from my house lol.

In my fraps I don't have an option to record the desktop.

I am using Fraps 3.4.5 build 13677.


Edit: Never mind, found out why I can't do it, I have to be using a Aero theme which I don't want to because it makes the performance of my games go down.
