I saw that its $19.99, which sounded reasonable, until my friend told me that other countries sell it for only $9.99. Is there a reason why?

Which country was that? In most of Europe it's 19,99€, which is 28,70$.

Edit: sorry, it's 17,99€ with the discount

Well, I just checked which countries it was, and it seems only Russia has this low price, but considering it's an indie game and that it likely hasn't got a retail release, I just don't see the reason.

An American complaining about prices on Steam ?

While you pay $17.99 with the 10% discount we in Europe pay almost $26 for a game made here lol...

And we're ♥♥♥♥ing used to it, since Europeans are kinda the Valve's milkcows which get to pay much more for most games while the average GDP/capita PPP is much lower than in the US...

I think Russians get the 10$ offer, because they'll pirate it otherwise... Piracy of foreign games, movies, music is pretty much encouraged in Soviet Russia.

I haven't seen any cheaper prices in other countries. If anything, the US is getting the best deal when you factor in the currency exchange.

Dunedain,

Who hurt you when you were younger? Just curious cause every post I have seen you make is unnecessarily angry. He asked a simple question and you are on him like hamburgers at a BBQ. Take a breather and calm down man.

If they want my money they better stop thinking that 1$ is 1€.

That's up to Valve. Devs have no power over Steam's policies.

I can understand that "poor" countries get offers that are realistic considering the average people's purchasing power. Russians aren't really known to buy their games anyway.

Yet, yes it sucks for me and my fellow Europeans to be charged more almost all the time than our brothers across the channel or and even more than Americans. Hence why I bought most of my games at sale price. Still Americans and English get better sales as well.

It's not devs fault though, well according to them anyway.

We getting closer to 1$ is 1.5€, and why the heck UK gets to pay less then others in the EU??

In Germany, it's 17.99€ at the moment. But in Germany, taxes are always included in the price. But still, it's not nice to let us pay much more than the USA.

If im paying more for an indie game i dont care as much about the price increase emore so when the game is actually worth the price paid for, which were 90% of the so called "AAA" titles fail at.

Well, I just checked which countries it was, and it seems only Russia has this low price, but considering it's an indie game and that it likely hasn't got a retail release, I just don't see the reason.

Because.. in Russia games are cheaper... russians are poor, just deal with it. There are super rich russians but the majority are not. That's why they still play old games like cs. 20euro is like 80 euro for you in the US.

Every game in RUssia cost less, WoW, starcraft 2 etc .. everything.. Else no one will buy.

The real problem here is that US/UK get all games cheaper but the players there are not exactly poor. Europeans pay 25-30% for all games at steam except for a few.

Piracy in Russia and other eastern european countries is very high so the prices there are usually lower to convince more people to buy instead of pirating

Europeans pay 25-30% more for all games at steam except for a few.

Those 25-30% are there to cover VAT (Value Added Tax) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAT), which most EU coutries have on nearly all trade goods.

Piracy is common everywhere... Russians get to pay less because their purchasing power is really low.

The “Special 301 Report”, filed by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), suggests that countries with the heaviest number of unauthorised game downloads by volume are Italy (20.3 per cent); Spain (12.5 per cent); France (7.5 per cent); Brazil (6 per cent) and China (5.7 per cent). The heaviest downloading countries per capita are reportedly Italy, Spain, Croatia, Portugal and Israel.

source (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/esa-game-piracy-highest-europe)

Yet continental Europe get to pay more than both the UK and the US while having a lower purchasing power. Which isn't fair particularly for those in Europe who are outside the Euro zone but are forced to pay in € inflating the cost...

Those 25-30% are there to cover VAT (Value Added Tax) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAT), which most EU coutries have on nearly all trade goods.

Not really games used to be cheaper when we all paid with USD. Hence why it made so many people angry, me included, when they decided to make us pay in €, which is of course much more profitable for Valve as long as the € is stronger than the USD with their 1€=1$ policy.
