Game not working... period?

I'm running Windows 7 on a Core 2 Duo (2.4Ghz) laptop with 8GB of RAM and an Nvidia 320M graphics card, screen resolution at 1280x800. All my other Steam games work fine (Left4Dead, Assassin's Creed II, ect), and I've tried turning full screen on and off in the config utility as well as reducing all graphics settings to the minimum settings.

All my drivers are updated, the game was purchased *just now* on Steam, and I watched it download a second time myself to make sure it was complete and simply failing (not corrupt or anything).


Basically it just crashes before loading anything more than the bare-bones frame of the window. Any help appreciated... :o

right click on the game in steam > properties > local files > verify

if it keeps happening, does it come up with an error, if so, what does the error say?

What sound card are you using? I have the same issue at the beginning but then toggling something in my sound card control panel fixed the crashing issue for me. http://i.imgur.com/OTtL3.png

So bad...... It crashes from that..... only game I ever came across that has done that.
